Saatvik Green Energy Limited (SGEL), one of India’s rapidly expanding integrated renewable energy manufacturers, has commissioned a new 2 GW in-house EPE (protective encapsulant) film manufacturing unit at its Ambala facility in Haryana. Located within the company’s existing solar module manufacturing campus, the new line marks a significant step toward greater vertical integration and domestic supply-chain independence.
With the commissioning of this facility, Saatvik joins a limited group of Indian solar manufacturers capable of producing encapsulant films internally—an essential component for high-performance photovoltaic modules. The development strengthens the company’s control over material quality, production efficiency, and long-term module durability, while reinforcing national initiatives such as Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Commenting on the milestone, Prashant Mathur, Chief Executive Officer of Saatvik Green Energy Limited, said, “Bringing the 2 GW EPE film facility online is a key milestone in our journey toward fully integrated solar manufacturing. By producing critical inputs locally, we are building a stronger domestic value chain that supports India’s clean energy goals and enhances long-term energy security.”
Encapsulant films are critical to solar module performance, providing protection to solar cells, maintaining insulation, ensuring layer adhesion, and enabling durability under diverse environmental conditions. By internalizing EPE production, Saatvik gains direct oversight of material formulation, optical performance, and lamination behavior. This ensures uniform quality across its module portfolio, including advanced M10 and G12 high-wattage formats.
Mr Mathur added, “Housing the encapsulant line within the same manufacturing complex creates clear operational benefits. Minimal transport time between film production and lamination supports just-in-time material flow, reduces logistics-related delays, and enables lean manufacturing. The result is improved productivity, higher equipment utilization, and a smoother end-to-end module assembly process.”
The captive EPE facility also delivers cost efficiencies. Eliminating long-distance sourcing reduces transportation, packaging, insurance, and handling expenses, while lowering waste generation. These savings contribute to competitive module pricing and strengthen the company’s sustainability credentials.
From a supply-chain perspective, in-house encapsulant production significantly improves resilience. Reduced reliance on imports and external suppliers helps shield operations from global disruptions, material shortages, and price volatility—ensuring consistent production in a rapidly expanding solar market.
Beyond operational stability, the new facility enhances Saatvik’s innovation capabilities. Internal R&D and process control enable faster development of customized encapsulation solutions for high-efficiency, bifacial, and large-format modules. This flexibility allows the company to address diverse requirements across utility-scale, commercial and industrial, and export markets.
Saatvik Green Energy Limited is an integrated solar solutions company engaged in the manufacture of high-efficiency photovoltaic modules and the execution of EPC projects for utility-scale, commercial, and industrial applications. The company operates a 4.8 GW module manufacturing facility in Ambala, Haryana, and is developing a greenfield integrated complex in Odisha with 4 GW of module capacity and 4.8 GW of solar cell capacity, reinforcing its position as a multi-location, vertically integrated player in India’s renewable energy ecosystem.
