Rockwell Automation has introduced the 140ME Motor Protective Switching Device, a new solution that combines multiple motor protection and control functions into a single compact unit. The device is designed to improve motor safety, simplify control panel design and help manufacturers build more reliable industrial systems.

The 140ME brings together disconnect capability, magnetic short-circuit protection, electronic overload protection and manual motor switching in one device. It is built to protect electric motors from overload, phase loss and short-circuit faults while maintaining stable performance in demanding industrial environments.

By combining several functions into a single unit, the 140ME helps reduce the number of components required inside electrical panels. This simplifies installation, saves valuable panel space and lowers system complexity for equipment manufacturers and panel builders.

The device also makes maintenance easier for plant operators. Clear status indicators and predictable trip functions allow maintenance teams to quickly identify faults, restore operations faster and reduce equipment downtime. Its compact design also improves accessibility during installation and servicing without affecting safety standards.

The 140ME forms part of Rockwell Automation’s Branch Motor Control and Protection portfolio. It is designed to work alongside the company’s 100-E Contactors, 140MT Motor Protection Circuit Breakers, and E100 Electronic Overload Relays. Together, these products provide a coordinated motor protection system that simplifies engineering, improves equipment reliability and supports efficient machine design.

Rockwell Automation has also enhanced the device by integrating it with the latest EtherNet/IP In-Cabinet Solution. Through a communication module connected to the 100-E Contactor, the 140ME can now share real-time operating information across the EtherNet/IP network.

The connected solution provides continuous access to motor health data, equipment status and diagnostic information. Maintenance teams can monitor motor performance, detect potential issues at an early stage and plan repairs before unexpected failures occur. This supports predictive maintenance strategies that help improve productivity while reducing maintenance costs.

The new communication capability also reduces wiring requirements inside electrical panels, making installation simpler and creating a cleaner panel layout. As production facilities continue to adopt connected manufacturing technologies, the solution offers greater flexibility and can easily expand to meet future operational needs.

With the launch of the 140ME Motor Protective Switching Device, Rockwell Automation continues to strengthen its portfolio of industrial automation solutions focused on improving equipment reliability, operational efficiency and plant safety. The combination of advanced motor protection, simplified panel design and digital connectivity enables manufacturers to build smarter motor control systems while supporting the growing demand for connected and data-driven industrial operations.
