RHI Magnesita, a global leader in refractory products, systems and solutions, has completed its joint venture with Khemka Refractories Pvt Ltd and officially launched MINPRO, a new company dedicated to refractory recycling and circular mineral solutions in India. The new venture is expected to strengthen sustainable manufacturing by increasing the recovery, processing and reuse of spent refractory materials across the country’s fast-growing industrial sectors.
MINPRO combines RHI Magnesita’s global expertise in refractory recycling with Khemka Refractories’ strong presence in the Indian market, creating a specialised platform to support steel, cement, non-ferrous metals and other high-temperature industries with reliable recycled mineral resources.
The company will be led by Jyotirmoy Bhattacharjee as Chief Executive Officer. With nearly three decades of experience in the refractory industry, including more than 20 years with RHI Magnesita, he will lead the development of MINPRO’s operations in Odisha. The facility will be strategically located in India’s key steel-producing region and will focus on collecting, processing and reusing spent refractory materials to create high-quality circular minerals.
The new business aims to establish an integrated recycling supply chain that improves the availability of recycled raw materials for refractory production and other industrial applications. The initiative is expected to help customers improve resource efficiency, strengthen supply chain reliability and reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing operations.
Commenting on the launch, Pankaj Malhan, Managing Director and CEO, RHI Magnesita India Ltd. and Regional President – India, said, “The launch of MINPRO marks an important step in our strategy to expand circular economy solutions in India. By combining our global recycling expertise with Khemka Refractories’ local market knowledge, we are creating a trusted platform that will deliver high-quality recycled raw materials while strengthening supply security for customers. This investment reflects our long-term commitment to sustainable industrial growth.”
Alok Khemka, Director, Khemka Refractories Pvt Ltd, said, “Our partnership with RHI Magnesita brings together complementary strengths to build a leading refractory recycling platform in India. MINPRO will combine advanced recycling technologies with strong local capabilities to support customers while promoting a more resource-efficient and environmentally responsible industrial ecosystem.”
The launch of MINPRO represents another milestone in RHI Magnesita’s global sustainability strategy and supports the company’s efforts to increase the use of recycled materials across the refractory industry. As demand for environmentally responsible manufacturing continues to grow, the joint venture will play an important role in reducing waste, conserving natural resources and supporting circular manufacturing practices.
Headquartered in Odisha, MINPRO is expected to become a key supplier of recycled refractory materials for India’s expanding industrial sector. By combining international technology with local expertise, the company aims to strengthen domestic supply chains while supporting the country’s transition towards more sustainable and efficient industrial production.
