Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Meta Platforms, Inc have announced a strategic partnership to develop a large-scale AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, marking a significant milestone in India’s emergence as a global destination for advanced digital infrastructure. Under the agreement, Reliance will design, build, and operate a 168-megawatt data centre facility for Meta, with provisions for future expansion. The project represents Meta’s first built-to-suit data centre capacity in India and reflects the growing importance of the country in supporting global artificial intelligence and digital services infrastructure.

Meta will lease capacity from the facility to support its expanding global compute requirements, including AI workloads and core digital operations. The development also strengthens the long-standing relationship between the two companies, which have collaborated across connectivity, commerce, and technology initiatives in India.

Reliance will serve as the end-to-end infrastructure partner, overseeing the complete lifecycle of the project. This includes facility design and construction, renewable power integration, utility management, network connectivity, and ongoing operational services. The model positions Reliance as a comprehensive infrastructure provider for hyperscale technology deployments in India.

The Jamnagar location offers several strategic advantages, including access to renewable energy resources, water availability, robust connectivity infrastructure, and proximity to key submarine cable landing stations on India’s western coast. The facility will also benefit from Jio’s extensive fibre network, enabling high-capacity data transmission and seamless integration with global digital ecosystems.

Sustainability will be a central component of the project. The data centre is planned to operate on renewable energy and will utilize desalinated seawater for cooling, supporting the environmental commitments of both organizations while addressing the growing energy demands of AI infrastructure.

Commenting on the partnership, Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, said the project demonstrates India’s readiness to play a leading role in the global AI economy. He noted that the facility will contribute to building world-class digital infrastructure capable of supporting the next generation of technological innovation.Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the collaboration underscores the company’s long-term commitment to India and will strengthen its ability to scale AI infrastructure globally while contributing to the country’s digital growth story.

The project aligns with India’s broader vision of expanding strategic digital infrastructure and attracting global investment in emerging technologies. As demand for AI computing accelerates worldwide, the Jamnagar facility is expected to become an important hub supporting the next phase of global digital transformation.
