PTG Holroyd Precision has introduced the HG200, a new machine in its HG Series of helical profile grinding centres. The machine is designed for manufacturers producing pump screws and smaller helical components used in compact refrigeration and air compressors.

The HG200 follows the launch of the company’s HG350 and HG500 grinding centres. It is based on the modular HG350 platform and is designed to grind helical gears and pump screws up to 200 mm in diameter, with profiles up to 50 mm wide, a maximum depth of 35 mm and component weights of up to 200 kg.

Mark Curran, Sales Director at PTG Holroyd, said the company had adopted the HG350 modular platform for smaller machines to simplify production and provide greater flexibility for customers. The approach allows the platform to be configured for gear, rotor, worm and pump screw grinding applications.

The HG200 comes with Siemens Sinumerik One computer numerical control (CNC) technology. PTG Holroyd worked with Siemens to adapt the control system to the requirements of its grinding machines. The company was the first UK machine tool manufacturer to adopt the latest control technology when it was introduced.

The machine also incorporates a Renishaw OSP 60 scanning probe with SPRINT technology. This allows automatic in-process corrections or adjustments through an associated component measuring machine, helping manufacturers maintain accuracy when grinding complex helical profiles. Mr Curran said PTG Holroyd had worked with Renishaw and Siemens to integrate automatic calibration using the SPRINT probe.

The HG Series is designed for deep grinding operations and features high-power grinding capability. An extended machine bed is available to accommodate longer screws and worm shafts. Other available features include IO-Link communication technology and radio-frequency identification (RFID) scanning, which can help production cells identify components and tooling during changes between manufacturing cycles. Standard onboard functions include automatic coordinate adjustment, in-cycle wheel dressing, integrated profile management and coordinate measurement.

The HG200 expands PTG Holroyd’s range of grinding machines for specialised helical components. The company’s portfolio includes equipment for manufacturing compressor rotors, pump screws and high-accuracy gears, along with technical consulting services. PTG operates through the PTG Holroyd Precision and Holroyd Precision Rotors brands, supplying machine tools for precision engineering applications across industrial sectors.
