In a significant boost to India’s renewable energy goals, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 280 megawatt (MW) solar power plant developed by Avaada Group in Surendranagar, Gujarat. During the same event, he also laid the foundation stone for a new 100 MW solar project in Vadodara.
The Surendranagar facility, built under Gujarat’s State Solar Policy, spans more than 1,100 acres across Tavi and Varsani villages. Developed at a cost of ₹1,500 crore, the plant is powered by high-efficiency bifacial solar modules produced by Avaada Electro, supporting the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The electricity generated will be supplied to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), strengthening the region’s clean energy supply and reducing dependency on fossil fuels.
Avaada’s Vadodara project, which will cover approximately 350 acres, represents an additional ₹400 crore investment and is scheduled for commissioning by April 2026. The site is expected to cut over 2 lakh tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually and will utilize water-efficient robotic cleaning technology, saving nearly 40 million liters of water each year.
Vineet Mittal, Chairman of Avaada Group, commented “This milestone underscores our unwavering focus on sustainable development. We’re not only creating energy infrastructure but also contributing to India’s broader growth and energy independence.”
The Surendranagar solar plant is projected to play a pivotal role in supporting daytime power supply for irrigation, improving agricultural productivity and reducing farmers’ reliance on nighttime electricity—often subject to load shedding. The plant also aids in grid stabilization, reducing the state’s need for expensive conventional power sources during peak hours.
On the environmental front, the Surendranagar project is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by nearly 6 lakh tons per year and conserve around 112 million liters of water annually through the use of automated cleaning systems, minimizing its environmental impact. In addition to its environmental contributions, Avaada has rolled out a series of community-focused programs around the project sites. These include free tutoring for students, computer lab setups, cybersecurity training, health camps, and vocational training programs aimed at empowering women and local youth.
Avaada Group continues to expand its footprint across the clean energy sector. Its operations span solar power generation, PV module manufacturing, green hydrogen production, battery storage, and more—positioning the group as a key player in building India’s future energy ecosystem.
Avaada is a diversified energy company involved in renewable power generation, solar PV manufacturing, green hydrogen and its derivatives, energy storage solutions, data center development, and pumped hydro projects. The group is committed to enabling a sustainable and self-reliant energy future for India.
