Ola Electric has received certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for its 6 kW / 9.1 kWh residential battery energy storage system, Ola शक्ति, powered by its indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell. The certification has been issued in accordance with IS 16242 (Part 1):2025, harmonised with IEC 62040-1:2017 standards, following testing at a BIS-recognised laboratory. With the license now in place, Ola Electric is preparing to begin deliveries of its residential battery storage units.

As part of the approval process, the system underwent extensive electrical and mechanical safety evaluations. These included tests for short-circuit and overload protection, fire and thermal safety, electric shock prevention, mechanical stability, environmental stress resistance, acoustic safety, and protection against dust and water exposure.

Ola शक्ति is positioned as India’s first residential battery energy storage system designed, engineered, and manufactured entirely in the country. The system is intended for use across homes, farms, and small businesses, offering an alternative to conventional lead-acid inverters and diesel generators.

The solution features instant power switchover with zero interruption, operation across a wide voltage range of 170V to 270V to protect connected appliances, and spill-proof, IP67-rated battery packs designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, including monsoon exposure. The system is designed to deliver automotive-grade safety standards with minimal maintenance requirements and no running fuel costs.

An Ola Electric spokesperson said the certification marks a key step toward commercial deployment, adding that residential energy storage will play a growing role in India’s transition to decentralised and reliable power systems. The company views Ola शक्ति as part of a broader effort to support domestic energy resilience and reduce dependence on conventional backup power sources.

Ola Electric manufactures its vehicles and key components at its Futurefactory in Tamil Nadu, supported by research and development centres in India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The company follows a direct-to-customer sales model, supported by a nationwide network of company-owned stores and a digital purchasing platform. Through campaigns such as Muhurat Mahotsav, Ola Electric aims to increase accessibility to electric mobility while showcasing its technology-led approach to vehicle and battery development.
