India’s largest power producer, NTPC, has launched a month-long empowerment programme in Assam aimed at training 40 underprivileged girls in various skills. The initiative, called the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM), has been running nationwide since 2018, with the Bongaigaon plant now hosting the fourth edition in Kokrajhar district. Scheduled from July 1 to July 30, 2025, GEM 2025 offers a comprehensive learning experience through structured modules, creative activities, and a strong emphasis on the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of participants, the company said in an official statement.

This year’s programme includes 40 girls selected from 12 local schools. Now in its fourth year at the Bongaigaon plant, GEM focuses on the overall development of rural girls aged 10 to 12, aiming to build their confidence, leadership skills, and sense of social responsibility.

The event was inaugurated by Kokrajhar District Commissioner Masanda M Pertin and Arnab Maitra, Head of Project at NTPC Bongaigaon.
