Nexteer Automotive (Liuzhou) Co, Ltd has officially opened its new manufacturing plant in Liuzhou, China, expanding the company’s production, research and development and supply chain capabilities in the region. Nexteer established operations in Liuzhou in 2015 and has since produced more than 12 million steering system units at its local facilities. The new plant has been developed to meet growing demand from domestic and international customers and support the company’s expansion into markets including Southeast Asia.
Covering more than 40,000 square metres, the new facility includes production areas, R&D and laboratory facilities, a test track, an employee centre and other supporting infrastructure. Production will focus on Column-Assist Electric Power Steering systems, Manual Steering Gears, motor controller modules, controllers, motors and related components.
Production and other operations will gradually move to the new facility. The plant uses digital manufacturing, automation and lean production systems aimed at improving production efficiency, product quality and response times. The facility will also provide additional capacity for the production of Nexteer’s steering and motion control technologies.
Jun Li, Senior Vice President, CSO, CTO & Asia Pacific Divisional President, Nexteer Automotive, said, “Liuzhou is one of Nexteer’s important strategic locations in China. Over the past decade and more, we have grown alongside our customers and worked hand in hand with our employees and have experienced firsthand the vitality and resilience of Liuzhou’s automotive industry. The official opening of the new plant today is not only an important milestone in Nexteer’s development in Liuzhou, but also a strong commitment to our continued investment in China and to serving local customers.”
A supplier collaboration industrial park planned around the new facility is expected to strengthen cooperation across the automotive value chain. The initiative will support local sourcing, supply chain resilience and coordination between suppliers and manufacturing operations.
Robin Milavec, President, Global COO & Executive Board Director, Nexteer Automotive, said, “The automotive industry’s transition toward electrification, intelligent mobility and software-defined vehicles is creating new expectations for speed, flexibility and execution. Our new Liuzhou plant strengthens Nexteer’s global manufacturing network with advanced, flexible capabilities that will help us respond more quickly and reliably to evolving customer needs.”
The facility is also designed to support Nexteer’s development of technologies for electrified and software-defined vehicles, including its Motion-by-Wire™ portfolio. The company plans to use the plant’s manufacturing capabilities to expand production of existing products while creating capacity for new technologies. The Liuzhou plant will work with Nexteer’s Asia Pacific Technical Center in Suzhou and its global manufacturing network to combine local production capabilities with the company’s international engineering resources.
