Danfoss is expanding its EXO (Extended Oil-Free) portfolio with the introduction of the OFB range — a newly developed tight shut-off ball valve designed specifically for oil-free chillers and heat pumps using Turbocor® compressors. Installed on the suction side, the OFB functions as both a service valve and, when motorized, an anti–refrigerant liquid migration valve. It adds an extra layer of protection to oil-free systems and is especially well suited for demanding environments such as data centers and advanced HVAC applications.

The OFB is designed to improve suction-side reliability through a three-in-one concept that integrates a smooth suction-cone inlet, a tight shut-off isolation valve, and full motorization capability. The suction-cone design ensures stable inlet flow with minimal pressure loss, while the motorized ball valve effectively prevents refrigerant migration during standstill and start-up. At the same time, it provides safe and efficient service isolation for the system.

The OFB series is fully modular and compatible with all Danfoss Turbocor® TGx and TTx compressors. It is available with 12 inlet flange variants in 3”, 4”, and 5” sizes, making it suitable for both new installations and retrofits. The valve supports major global standards, including ANSI, ASTM, DIN, and EN, and is designed to operate reliably in temperatures ranging from –40 °C to +100 °C.

OFB is the latest addition to the Danfoss extended oil-free program. Together with the new OFC models and the fast-acting PTS staging valves, Danfoss continues to raise standards for reliability and energy efficiency—key requirements in data center applications where oil-free technology is widely used.

“Oil-free technology places high demands on system reliability and protection. With the OFB valve, we are strengthening our portfolio to better support these critical applications,” said Niels Robert Arbjerg, Vice President, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Controls.

To complete the solution, the OFB can be equipped with four compact MQT electric actuators featuring a fast 10-second response time and brushless motor technology. A reinforced stem sealing system with robust guide bearings and top-mounted support minimizes misalignment and wear, even under harsh operating conditions. Thanks to its low breakaway torque, the valve can be paired with small, energy-efficient actuators that reduce mechanical stress on the assembly. The complete valve and actuator combination has been endurance-tested for up to 100,000 cycles, ensuring reliable performance throughout the system’s service life.
