MosChip Technologies Limited has announced the successful completion of the initial silicon bring-up of VIDYUT100, its Smart Energy Meter Integrated Circuit (IC), marking a key milestone in the development of an indigenous semiconductor solution for India’s evolving energy infrastructure. The programme is supported by the Government of India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme.
VIDYUT100 was taped out during the first quarter of FY2027 and has since been received from the fabrication facility for silicon evaluation and validation at MosChip’s engineering laboratories. The initial bring-up activities have been completed successfully, with key device functions demonstrating expected operation during preliminary laboratory evaluation.
The engineering team has completed the first phase of evaluation, delivering encouraging results that validate the design methodology and integration approach adopted for the programme. Comprehensive validation and performance characterisation are now continuing across analog, digital, metrology, communication and system-level functions.
The ongoing activities are focused on ensuring that VIDYUT100 meets the reliability, accuracy and performance requirements expected from next-generation smart metering platforms. The evaluation and characterisation process is expected to continue over the coming weeks.
VIDYUT100 forms part of MosChip’s efforts to develop indigenous semiconductor solutions for the energy sector and support the modernisation of power distribution infrastructure. The programme is also aligned with India’s broader objective of strengthening domestic semiconductor innovation and manufacturing capabilities.
The successful silicon bring-up represents an important development milestone, while commercial availability of VIDYUT100 remains subject to completion of validation, characterisation, compliance and customer qualification activities. MosChip will provide further updates as the programme progresses. VIDYUT100 is a fully integrated Smart Energy Meter IC designed for advanced smart metering applications. Earlier milestones included validation of key analog and digital subsystems through test chips and completion of the communication protocol stack.
At SEMICON India 2026, MosChip will showcase a live demonstration of VIDYUT100, developed from specification to silicon along with indigenously developed software. The demonstration will feature the integrated DLMS/COSEM communication stack, real-time electricity metering, data acquisition and standardised communication for smart energy applications.
