Matrix Geo Solutions Limited, a geospatial engineering and consulting firm, has secured a contract to implement Digital Twin technology for a new Broad Gauge railway corridor project in collaboration with the Indian Railways. The project falls under the Ajmer Division and aims to support the planning and design of a rail link between Taranga Hill and Abu Road via Ambaji.

The assignment focuses on leveraging advanced geospatial tools to enhance route planning and infrastructure design. As part of the scope, Matrix Geo will conduct drone-based LiDAR aerial surveys across the proposed alignment. These surveys will gather high-resolution terrain data, enabling the creation of accurate topographic maps, elevation models and orthophoto mosaics that will serve as the foundation for engineering analysis.

A comprehensive 3D Digital Twin model of the project area will also be developed, representing the existing terrain and surrounding features. This includes built structures, transportation networks, vegetation, water bodies and utility infrastructure. The model is intended to provide a detailed and interactive environment for project evaluation.

In addition, a separate 3D model of the proposed railway corridor will be designed to Level of Development 200 standards. This model will incorporate key engineering elements such as track formation, embankments, bridges, tunnels and station components, offering a clear visual and analytical representation of the planned infrastructure.

“This initiative combines precise data acquisition with advanced modelling techniques to support informed planning of railway systems. Digital Twin applications allow stakeholders to review and optimise designs before construction begins, improving coordination and reducing uncertainties,” said Amit Sharma, Whole Time Director, Matrix Geo Solutions Limited.

The project will also include aerial simulations and immersive flythrough visualisations of the corridor. These outputs are expected to assist in stakeholder engagement, streamline design validation and minimise potential rework during execution. The digital models are designed for long-term utility and can be used to support maintenance and operational planning once the railway is developed.

This engagement further strengthens Matrix Geo’s portfolio in delivering large-scale geospatial and digital engineering solutions across infrastructure sectors. It also reflects the increasing adoption of data-driven technologies in building efficient and connected transportation networks across India.
