In a significant step towards smarter and more cost-effective travel, India’s homegrown navigation platform, Mappls App by MapmyIndia, has introduced a set of first-of-its-kind features for Indian road users. These include real-time traffic signal countdowns, toll savings estimation using the NHAI Annual Toll Pass, and distance-based toll tracking—tools aimed at improving route planning, reducing congestion, and cutting travel costs.
Developed in partnership with the Bengaluru Traffic Police, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and global engineering firm Arcadis, these features are now live on the Mappls app for iOS, with Android support to follow soon. The new updates represent a major milestone in the evolution of India’s navigation systems, combining artificial intelligence, geospatial data, and user-centric design.
One of the key highlights is the AI-based traffic signal timer display, integrated across 125+ smart signals in Bengaluru. The app now shows real-time countdowns—green, amber, or red—up to 500 meters before reaching a junction. The feature works in both automated (VAC) and manually operated modes. This functionality helps drivers reduce stress in stop-and-go traffic, anticipate delays, and better estimate arrival times—marking a new chapter in public traffic information being made available directly to drivers through a navigation app.
In another first, Mappls has rolled out toll cost-saving insights for users holding or considering the NHAI Annual Toll Pass. Drivers can now view estimated toll savings directly on their route preview screen before starting a journey. This feature, made possible through collaboration with NHAI’s digital infrastructure team (IHMCL), also allows drivers to monitor toll road distances, making trip planning more transparent and economical. Users can purchase the pass via the RajmargYatra mobile app. These tools add to the growing list of innovations from CE Info Systems Ltd (MapmyIndia), which has long been at the forefront of India’s digital mapping and navigation technology.
