Laser Power & Infra Limited, an integrated manufacturer of power cables and conductors with engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) capabilities in power transmission and distribution, has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL), a Government undertaking, for the supply and installation of High Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductors under a turnkey reconductoring project in the Nalagarh Electrical Division of Himachal Pradesh.
The project involves replacing conventional conductors with advanced HTLS conductors to enhance transmission capacity and improve power supply reliability while utilizing the existing tower infrastructure. Valued at approximately ₹4.15 crore, the order represents Laser Power & Infra’s first commercial deployment of advanced conductor technology under its manufacturing agreement with TS Conductor Corp., USA, signed in March 2025.
Under the project, Laser will manufacture Aluminium Encapsulated Carbon Core Conductors (AECC) in India using TS Conductor’s proprietary pre-tensioned carbon fibre composite core technology. The development marks a significant milestone in the localization of advanced transmission conductor technology and is among the first commercial applications of TS Conductor’s AECC technology in India, with the conductors being manufactured domestically by Laser for project execution.
Reconductoring is emerging as a strategic solution for utilities seeking to increase power transmission capacity without the need for additional right-of-way acquisition or replacement of existing towers. By enabling higher current carrying capacity through existing infrastructure, advanced HTLS conductors provide a faster, cost-effective, and sustainable approach to modernizing transmission networks.
Commenting on the development, Deepak Goel, Chairman & Managing Director, Laser Power & Infra Limited, said, “This order marks the successful commercialization of our technology partnership with TS Conductor and validates our strategy of bringing globally proven advanced conductor solutions to India’s power sector. HPSEBL’s adoption of AECC technology reflects the growing demand for solutions that can enhance transmission capacity, improve grid efficiency, and reduce losses without expanding existing transmission corridors. As utilities focus on strengthening infrastructure to meet rising electricity demand, reconductoring will play an important role in India’s grid modernization journey. This project is a significant milestone in positioning Laser as a leading domestic provider of next-generation transmission conductor solutions.”
AECC conductors are designed to deliver significantly higher power carrying capacity compared with conventional ACSR conductors while reducing line losses and maintaining lower thermal sag at elevated operating temperatures. Their compatibility with existing transmission infrastructure makes them particularly suitable for reconductoring projects, enabling utilities to upgrade ageing networks with minimal civil infrastructure modifications.
Laser has already prequalified and submitted bids for 18 transmission EPC projects of 66 kV and above involving reconductoring with advanced HTLS conductors. The HPSEBL LoI establishes an important commercial reference for the company as it expands its presence in India’s growing market for advanced transmission conductor solutions.
