LANXESS Launches Low-TPP Flame Retardant Platform

Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has launched Disflamoll® Advance, a new platform of plasticizing flame retardants designed to meet changing regulatory and formulation requirements. The new platform contains less than 0.1% triphenyl phosphate (TPP), helping manufacturers address tighter regulatory requirements while maintaining flame-retardant performance. LANXESS said the platform has been developed for a range of applications where manufacturers need a combination of regulatory preparedness, product performance and improved processing.

Disflamoll® Advance offers high flame retardancy along with strong smoke suppression. Its properties can also help manufacturers reduce or eliminate the use of antimony trioxide (ATO) in certain formulations. The platform is intended to provide flexibility as regulations and customer requirements continue to change.

“Disflamoll® Advance helps customers stay ahead of regulatory developments while continuing to achieve outstanding product performance,” said Heiko Tebbe, Head of Application Development for Polymer Additives at LANXESS. He said the platform combines regulatory preparedness, technical performance and sustainability in a portfolio designed to address both current and future market needs.

The first product launched under the platform is Disflamoll® Advance OT. It has been developed specifically for polar polymer systems and can be used in several applications. These include flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC) used in flooring, tarpaulins and synthetic leather, as well as insulation foams, thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), synthetic rubbers and cellulose esters.

According to LANXESS, Disflamoll® Advance OT combines extremely low TPP content with the flame-retardant, plasticizing and smoke-suppressing properties associated with the Disflamoll range. The product has also been developed with sustainability considerations in mind. The company said its use of renewable energy and renewable raw materials can result in a carbon footprint up to 40% lower than conventional alternatives.

The launch comes as chemical manufacturers and downstream industries face increasing pressure to meet regulatory and environmental requirements while maintaining product performance. LANXESS said the new platform is intended to support manufacturers as these requirements continue to evolve.

Disflamoll® Advance OT is available for customers now. LANXESS plans to introduce additional products under the platform to address different polymer systems and application requirements. The company said the expansion of the Disflamoll® Advance platform will focus on providing solutions that combine low TPP content, flame protection, processing performance and sustainability.
