Knauf India Launches HeatBloc Gypsum Board for Better Thermal Comfort and Energy Savings

Knauf India, a leading manufacturer of drywall and ceiling solutions, has introduced HeatBloc, a new gypsum plasterboard developed to improve indoor thermal comfort and support energy-efficient building design. The product is designed to reduce heat entering buildings by reflecting solar radiation, helping maintain cooler indoor spaces while lowering the demand for air conditioning.

HeatBloc features a polyester-metallised aluminium foil backing that reflects up to 85% of solar radiation before it penetrates walls and ceilings. By reducing heat gain at the building envelope, the product helps minimise cooling loads and contributes to lower energy consumption in residential, commercial and institutional buildings.

The launch comes as India experiences rising temperatures and increasing demand for sustainable construction materials that improve building performance. With energy efficiency becoming a key consideration for developers, architects and homeowners, products that enhance thermal insulation are gaining greater importance in modern construction.

HeatBloc is available in two variants to suit different applications. The 9.5 mm board is designed for ceiling systems, while the 12.5 mm version is suitable for wall linings and drywall installations that require greater structural stability. Both variants are manufactured in accordance with IS 2095 (Part 1): 2023 Type A standards, ensuring consistent quality, durability and reliable performance.

The gypsum board also features a smooth surface that supports high-quality interior finishes. Its metallic backing allows installers to quickly identify the correct installation side during construction, improving installation efficiency and reducing the possibility of errors at project sites.

According to the company, HeatBloc has been developed to address one of the major challenges faced by buildings in hot climates—solar heat gain. By reflecting radiant heat before it enters interior spaces, the product helps create more comfortable indoor environments while supporting lower operating costs for cooling systems.

Speaking on the launch, Vijay Mishra, Commercial Director at Knauf India, said rising temperatures across Indian cities have increased the need for building materials that improve thermal performance. He noted that reducing heat ingress through walls and ceilings can significantly improve indoor comfort while reducing dependence on air-conditioning systems. He added that HeatBloc strengthens Knauf India’s portfolio of solutions designed to support energy-efficient and climate-responsive construction.

The company believes that as the construction industry continues to adopt sustainable building practices, demand for integrated materials that improve energy performance and occupant comfort will continue to grow. Products such as HeatBloc are expected to play an important role in helping developers meet evolving building standards while supporting environmental goals.
