JSW Thermal Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited, has entered into a contract with Toshiba JSW Power Systems Private Ltd for the supply of two steam turbine generators of 800 MW each for its Salboni Thermal Power Project in West Bengal. The turbine-generator units will be manufactured and delivered in line with the project’s construction schedule to support timely commissioning of the 1,600 MW plant.
Toshiba JSW is an associate company of JSW Energy. JSW Energy stated that sourcing the equipment from an associate entity is intended to improve coordination during execution, enhance supply certainty and mitigate risks linked to equipment availability in the power sector.
JSW Energy currently operates 5,658 MW of thermal generation capacity using a mix of domestic and imported coal. With the Salboni project under construction and an option to add a further 1,800 MW at KSK Mahanadi, the company’s total thermal capacity is expected to reach 9,058 MW. Thermal assets are expected to account for about 30 percent of JSW Energy’s total locked-in generation capacity of 30.5 GW.
The company’s overall portfolio includes operational, under-construction and pipeline projects across thermal, renewable and hydro segments, along with energy storage assets. JSW Energy has set a target of achieving 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by FY2030, with a longer-term goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
JSW Energy Limited is a leading private-sector power producer in India and part of the JSW Group. The company operates across the power value chain, with assets in thermal, hydro, renewable energy and energy storage. Since commencing operations in 2000, JSW Energy has expanded its installed capacity through a balanced mix of generation sources and geographic diversification.
The company plays a key role in providing reliable baseload power while scaling renewable capacity to support India’s energy transition.
