Jindal Steel has announced plans to expand its structural steel manufacturing capacity at its Raigarh plant, doubling output from 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 2.4 MTPA by mid-2028. The expansion will increase the domestic supply of heavy and ultra-heavy structural steel sections and strengthen the company’s position in the structural steel market. As part of the project, Jindal Steel will set up a new dedicated structural steel mill and undertake upgrades across upstream and downstream facilities.

The expansion will allow the company to manufacture larger and heavier parallel flange sections used in large-scale infrastructure and energy projects. At present, the Raigarh facility produces sections ranging from 100 mm to 900 mm, with weights of up to 333 kg per metre.

Post-expansion, production will extend to sections up to 1,100 mm in depth and 1,500 kg per metre, among the largest available in India. These capabilities will cater to rising demand from infrastructure, power, refineries, renewable energy, transmission networks, and high-rise construction, while reducing dependence on imported heavy structural sections.

Commenting on the development, Subrat Panda, Head – Structures & CSB, Jindal Steel, said the expansion is aimed at building long-term domestic capacity for complex projects and improving execution timelines for large infrastructure and energy developments. Jindal Steel continues to promote the use of high-strength structural steel to support efficient construction, optimized material use, and improved sustainability.
