In a first for the Indian steel industry, Jindal Steel has been formally recognised as an Awarding Body by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET). This distinction places Jindal Steel as the first large diversified enterprise and the first integrated steel manufacturer in the country to receive such status, marking a major step in linking industrial expertise with formal vocational training.

Under the agreement, Jindal Steel now holds nationwide jurisdiction in the Large Indian Enterprise/MNC category, giving it the authority to set and deliver vocational training standards across sectors and geographies. The company will now design, certify, and implement skill development programs that meet industry demands while aligning with national education reforms.

This recognition directly connects Jindal Steel’s skilling efforts with the National Credit Framework (NCrF) outlined under India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The move is expected to enhance employment readiness among learners, standardise training quality, and support smoother career progression across sectors through recognised and portable qualifications.

“This is more than an award—it’s a responsibility,” said Naveen Jindal, Chairman, Jindal Steel. “We aim to integrate real industry knowledge into the learning process, so that young Indians are prepared not just for jobs, but for long-term careers in a changing economy.”

The collaboration aims to reduce the disconnect between academic learning and workplace requirements. With structured, outcome-based skilling programs, Jindal Steel is positioned to support a growing workforce in sectors such as infrastructure, green energy, and advanced manufacturing. The company’s recognition also opens the door for stronger industry-academia partnerships and cross-sector capacity-building. All certifications issued under this framework will carry national validity and international recognition, enhancing career mobility for skilled professionals in India and abroad.

Jindal Steel is one of India’s leading integrated steel manufacturers, operating on a mine-to-metal model with advanced production facilities in Angul, Raigarh, and Patratu. The company serves key industries including construction, transportation, energy, and heavy engineering, with a focus on quality, scale, and sustainability. With an investment base exceeding $12 billion, Jindal Steel combines domestic strength with a growing global presence across India and Africa.
