Jansen Machining Technology has strengthened its advanced manufacturing capabilities with the commissioning of two GROB G350 horizontal five-axis machining centres integrated with a large-scale automation system from BMO Automation. The new production cell has been developed to support unmanned high-mix, low-volume manufacturing for customers in demanding industries such as semiconductors, optics and other high-precision engineering sectors.

The investment marks a significant step in the company’s strategy to improve productivity, increase machine utilisation and meet growing demand for complex precision components with shorter delivery times and tighter tolerances.Jansen Machining Technology employs around 75 people and specialises in the production of high-precision components for industries where dimensional accuracy, cleanliness and process reliability are critical. The company manufactures small and medium-sized production batches with complex geometries and strict quality requirements.

According to Twan Bussers, Director Technology for Machining at Anvil Group, the investment reflects changing customer expectations and the increasing need for automated manufacturing. “Customers are demanding smaller production batches, faster delivery and higher precision while maintaining competitive costs. Our goal is to keep machines running for up to 150 production hours every week without producing for stock. To achieve this, we needed highly reliable machining centres combined with advanced automation, making the GROB and BMO solution the right choice for our operations,” he said.

The company selected GROB’s horizontal machining technology after an extensive evaluation process. Unlike vertical machining centres, horizontal machines provide better chip evacuation, reducing the risk of damage to workpieces and cutting tools during unmanned production. This improves process stability and supports continuous automated manufacturing.

The G350 machining centre offers working ranges of 600 x 855 x 750 mm and can machine components weighing up to 400 kilograms with diameters of up to 720 mm. The machine’s rigid construction and compact axis arrangement provide high stability, enabling the production of parts with dimensional tolerances measured in only a few micrometres.

The two machining centres are connected to an advanced BMO Automation system that combines pallet handling and workpiece handling within a single production cell. A robotic handling system transfers components between machining centres, cleaning stations and other processing areas, while automatic workpiece rotation enables complete six-sided machining without operator intervention. The system has also been designed for future expansion with the addition of a third machining centre.

The production cell was commissioned in July 2025 and has already achieved extended periods of unmanned production, including continuous operation over weekends. The company said the seamless integration delivered jointly by GROB and BMO Automation has enabled faster implementation while supporting long-term productivity, repeatability and manufacturing flexibility.

The investment further strengthens Jansen Machining Technology’s position as a supplier of high-precision engineered components while supporting the Anvil Group’s strategy of expanding advanced manufacturing capabilities and serving increasingly complex customer requirements across global high-tech industries.
