Ingersoll Rand (India) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ingersoll Rand Inc (NYSE: IR), has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a major step forward in the company’s commitment to innovation, regional growth, and sustainable industrial development. This modern facility is a strategic expansion that supports Ingersoll Rand’s growing operations in India and aligns with the government’s “Make in India” initiative.
In its initial phase, the Sanand plant will produce more than 24,000 units annually, with additional investment planned for future expansion. With Ingersoll Rand’s existing plant already operating at full capacity (60,000 units per year), this new facility will boost overall production capacity while supporting both local and international market demands. The facility is scheduled to begin operations by the fourth quarter of FY2025.
Sunil Khanduja, Managing Director of Ingersoll Rand India, expressed appreciation for the Government of Gujarat’s support, stating: “This investment underscores our long-standing presence in India and reflects our intent to deliver high-end global technology adapted for Indian customers. The Sanand facility is a demonstration of our emphasis on sustainable manufacturing, skilled talent, and India’s evolving role in global innovation.”
Gareth Topping, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Compression Systems and Services EMEIA, added, “India is among our fastest-expanding markets. This facility enhances our operational flexibility and capacity, supporting our commitment to customers with a stronger local footprint. It aligns with our multi-brand and multi-channel approach and reinforces our ability to maintain high-quality standards across markets.”
The Sanand site spans over 65,000 square meters, with a current built-up area of approximately 24,500 square meters, and provision for further expansion in the coming phases. It will manufacture a range of engineered-to-order products including centrifugal compressors, refrigeration dryers, large reciprocating compressors (LRBU), gas compressors, and nitrogen generators. These products will serve key industries such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, defense, textiles, automotive, power, and engineering, enabling the company to cater to a wide spectrum of customer needs in India and abroad.
The facility has been built with a clear focus on environmental responsibility and advanced manufacturing practices. It will operate on 100% renewable energy and includes features like zero liquid discharge, rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling, organic waste composting, and noise-reducing enclosures. Ingersoll Rand aims to achieve net-zero operations within five years at this facility.
It also incorporates digital technologies such as IoT-based monitoring, AI-powered predictive maintenance, and systems like Ecoplant and Helix for real-time performance tracking. These innovations are complemented by in-house research and development labs, positioning the Sanand plant as both a production base and a technology hub.
Beyond manufacturing, the facility will drive employment generation, offering opportunities for local talent while creating further indirect jobs through partnerships with suppliers, distributors, and service providers. Ingersoll Rand is also committed to workforce development through training and skill enhancement programs, supporting roles across production, testing, and R&D.
