IMI has secured a contract worth more than $3 million to supply a valve package for the 1.5 GW Franklin Farms Power Station in Louisiana, United States. The combined-cycle power plant is being developed to provide electricity for AI data centre infrastructure.

The Franklin Farms Power Station is located at the Franklin Farms Megasite in northeast Louisiana. Engineering, procurement and construction activities for the project are being carried out by Kiewit Corp. The facility will comprise two combined-cycle units designed to provide high efficiency and operational flexibility.

Under the contract, IMI will supply a turbine bypass system, attemperators and a control valve package. The equipment is designed to support plant responsiveness, safety and operating efficiency, particularly in applications that require consistent power generation and rapid control of operating conditions.

“This contract win is a great opportunity for us at IMI to tackle industry-wide challenges, enabling reliable, efficient power generation and supporting our customers as they expand their capacity to meet the growing energy demands driven by AI and digital infrastructure,” said Priyavrath Kathavi, VP Sales, Process Automation at IMI.

Natural gas combined-cycle plants can respond quickly to changes in electricity demand and provide stable power for facilities with high and continuous loads. The technology also generally produces lower emissions than older coal-fired generation. IMI said its work on the Franklin Farms project builds on its experience in combined-cycle power projects across North America. The company works with engineering, procurement and construction contractors and plant developers on valve systems and related equipment for power generation applications.

The company also supports project teams in standardising designs, coordinating technical documentation and managing equipment delivery schedules. For the Franklin Farms project, IMI is currently involved in detailed engineering activities, with equipment deliveries planned in line with the construction programme.

“Our ability to align closely with project partners and provide proven valve solutions is critical for projects of this nature,” Mr Kathavi said. “Projects like Franklin Farms, which operate in the AI and data centre sphere, require not just a deep understanding of the industry, but also precision, flexibility and technical confidence from day one,” he added.

The Franklin Farms project reflects growing investment in power generation capacity to support the electricity requirements of data centres and other digital infrastructure. Combined-cycle natural gas plants are being used in such projects for their ability to provide dispatchable electricity and respond to changes in power demand.

IMI provides engineered products and services for critical flow control applications across industrial markets. Its portfolio includes control valves, actuators and other flow-control technologies used in power generation and process industries. The company is supporting the Franklin Farms project through its engineering and supply activities as construction progresses.
