The International Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) Delhi has entered into a strategic partnership with the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) to support education, skill development, and applied research in India’s fast-expanding medical devices and MedTech sector. The collaboration has been formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding and is aimed at bridging the gap between academic learning and the practical needs of the medical technology industry.

Under the agreement, IIHMR Delhi will establish a satellite centre at the AMTZ campus in Visakhapatnam. The centre will serve as a hub for executive education programmes, industry-oriented skill development courses, and joint academic–industry initiatives. By combining IIHMR Delhi’s expertise in healthcare management, public health policy, and health economics with AMTZ’s advanced manufacturing, testing, calibration, and innovation infrastructure, the partnership seeks to create a comprehensive learning environment aligned with real-world industry requirements.

Dr Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder Chief Executive Officer of AMTZ, said the collaboration would open up diverse career pathways for students and professionals while addressing the growing need for trained management talent in the medical devices sector. He noted that specialised and certified courses introduced under the partnership would strengthen workforce readiness across the healthcare ecosystem.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr SD Gupta, Trustee Secretary of IIHMR, stated that the coming decade would see medical devices playing a defining role in healthcare delivery. He emphasised that alongside innovation, India must build strong capabilities in management, regulation, and quality systems, and that the partnership with AMTZ creates a platform to develop talent across the entire medical device value chain.

Dr Sutapa, Director of IIHMR, highlighted the importance of close collaboration between academia and industry, noting that exposure to real manufacturing and innovation environments ensures that education, research, and training remain relevant to industry needs. She added that such partnerships better prepare graduates and contribute to a more responsive healthcare system.

Aligned with national priorities such as Make in India and self-reliance in MedTech, the IIHMR–AMTZ partnership aims to strengthen workforce capabilities, generate policy-relevant research, and support the sustainable growth of India’s medical devices sector, ultimately improving access to affordable and high-quality healthcare technologies.

AMTZ is India’s first dedicated medical device manufacturing and innovation park, offering an integrated ecosystem that includes production facilities, testing and certification services, incubation support, and skill development platforms. Through initiatives such as the Bio Valley Incubation Council, AMTZ supports startups and healthcare companies in developing high-quality and affordable medical technologies for domestic and international markets.

IIHMR Delhi is a leading academic institution focused on building leadership and management capabilities across health systems and allied sectors. With a strong emphasis on applied learning and policy engagement, the institute offers postgraduate programmes, executive education, and professional courses designed to prepare healthcare professionals to operate effectively within complex systems.
