India’s MedTech ecosystem witnessed a landmark moment on November 15 as Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Member of Parliament for North Mumbai, visited the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam. Spread over a sprawling 270-acre campus, AMTZ has today evolved into one of the world’s most comprehensive medical device manufacturing clusters, home to more than 150 companies that drive research, engineering, and the production of life-saving medical technologies.
During his visit, Piyush Goyal inaugurated two significant milestones for India’s healthcare manufacturing journey—3i MedTech, a next-generation MRI manufacturing initiative, and the new Cathlab production facility of Innovation Imaging Technologies Pvt Ltd (IITPL). The launch of 3i MedTech represents India’s bold stride toward self-reliance in high-end diagnostic imaging systems. Developed in close collaboration with AMTZ, 3i MedTech aims to deliver advanced MRI solutions that are precise, affordable, and designed around patient needs.

In parallel, the inauguration of IITPL’s Cathlab manufacturing unit strengthens India’s capability to produce sophisticated cardiac imaging technologies domestically, reducing import dependency and boosting domestic innovation. These developments reaffirm the growing confidence in India’s ability to engineer world-class healthcare solutions at scale.
Interacting with industry leaders and innovators at the campus, Piyush Goyal praised Dr Jitendra Sharma, the Managing Director and Founder CEO of AMTZ, for his visionary leadership in building a globally competitive MedTech manufacturing ecosystem. The Minister expressed strong confidence that India’s MedTech sector is now positioned for accelerated growth, and commended AMTZ for its unique model that blends manufacturing speed, cost-effectiveness, and technological depth. He highlighted how AMTZ’s capabilities, from producing basic medical supplies like masks to complex systems like MRI machines, demonstrate India’s readiness to lead in the global medical manufacturing landscape.
Dr Sharma, in his remarks, emphasised AMTZ’s mission of translating scientific research into market-ready, socially impactful medical products. He noted that AMTZ remains the only MedTech cluster in the world to host both a WHO Centre and a World Trade Centre, reflecting its global recognition and strategic importance. He also thanked Piyush Goyal for his consistent support and encouragement, acknowledging that such leadership fuels AMTZ’s ability to innovate quickly and with purpose.
The visit also served as a platform for forging new collaborations, with several strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) exchanged in the presence of the Hon’ble Minister Piyush Goyal. The partnerships—spanning institutions such as the Artificial Limb Centre, NIEPID, NCIDC, Poonawalla Fincorp, IIMM, IBSC, KIHT, and Dhanush Healthcare Systems—aim to strengthen industry-academia engagement, skill development, and financial support for MedTech innovation. The event concluded with the ceremonial flag-off of the Varex Detector export, symbolising India’s growing capability not just to produce but also to export advanced diagnostic components to global markets.
