Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) commemorated its 29th foundation day on May 6, 2025, marking nearly three decades of presence in the Indian automotive sector. Established in 1996, HMIL has grown into one of the country’s leading and most trusted automotive manufacturers, recording cumulative sales of 12.7 million vehicles since inception.

HMIL began its India operations with the establishment of its manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu—Hyundai’s first integrated plant outside South Korea. Production commenced in 1998, positioning the facility as a hub of manufacturing excellence. The company now seeks to further expand its capacity by operationalizing its Talegaon plant, targeting a combined annual production capacity of 1 million units.

Hyundai’s product range—from early models like the Santro to recent innovations such as the IONIQ 5—has been closely aligned with India’s evolving mobility needs. The company’s progress mirrors the broader growth of the Indian automotive industry, with HMIL playing a key role in shaping market trends and preferences.

Hyundai Motor India has significantly contributed to India’s global automotive footprint by exporting over 3.7 million vehicles to more than 150 countries. This achievement underscores its commitment to the ‘Make in India, Made for the World’ initiative, positioning the company as a key player in international markets and a leading exporter among Indian automobile manufacturers.

The company’s export journey has seen consistent milestones, with 0.5 million units shipped by 2008, reaching 1 million by 2010, 2 million by 2014, and 3 million by 2020. By 2025, Hyundai projects this figure to reach 3.7 million units, reflecting steady growth in global demand for its India-manufactured vehicles.

HMIL continues to be India’s leading passenger car exporter since inception and is among the top three contributors to Hyundai Motor Company’s global sales, accounting for 18.5% of global volumes in calendar year 2024.

The Sriperumbudur plant also serves as a benchmark in sustainable manufacturing and smart factory operations. In addition, through the Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the company has invested ₹400 crore in community development over the last five years, impacting over 2 million lives annually under the CSR pillars of Earth, Mobility, and Hope.

These initiatives have generated income benefits exceeding ₹40 crore, supporting community self-reliance and long-term socio-economic development. As HMIL enters its 30th year, it remains focused on delivering advanced mobility solutions, enhancing customer satisfaction, and contributing to national progress through continued investment in innovation, manufacturing, and corporate responsibility.
