Hygge Energy, a climate fintech company focused on digital energy solutions, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Atria Renewable to promote rooftop solar adoption and enable peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The collaboration aligns with regulatory guidelines issued by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) aimed at encouraging decentralized energy generation and innovative energy trading models.
Under the agreement, Atria Renewable will serve as a preferred rooftop solar installation partner for Hygge Energy. The partnership will combine Hygge Energy’s digital trading platform with Atria Renewable’s experience in solar project development and installation services.
The collaboration is intended to support wider adoption of rooftop solar systems while enabling consumers to participate in peer-to-peer electricity trading. Through such platforms, solar producers can sell excess electricity generated by their rooftop systems directly to other users, creating a decentralized energy marketplace within the distribution network.
As part of the partnership, the two companies will share technical inputs, market insights and consumer information required to support solar adoption and energy trading participation. They will also explore the development of a common mobile application that integrates Atria Renewable’s services with Hygge Energy’s digital P2P energy trading platform, currently available through major mobile app marketplaces.
Hygge Energy’s platform combines blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies to create a secure environment for rooftop solar trading. The system supports multiple trading mechanisms and allows automated contract execution through blockchain-based infrastructure. Payment processing capabilities on the platform are designed to align with the Reserve Bank of India’s Central Bank Digital Currency framework.
In addition to energy trading functions, the platform provides integration with rooftop solar financing solutions. The system also includes onboarding and training resources that will support Atria Renewable in deploying solar installations connected to the trading platform.
As the installation partner, Atria Renewable will manage the technical and operational aspects of rooftop solar projects. Its responsibilities include conducting site surveys, designing solar systems, submitting proposals, and overseeing installation and commissioning. The company will ensure that installations comply with applicable safety standards and regulatory requirements. Following project completion, Atria Renewable will continue to provide maintenance services, warranty support and customer assistance in accordance with agreed service commitments.
Prateek Saxena, Chief Executive Officer of Hygge Energy, said the partnership reflects the company’s objective of applying financial technology to accelerate clean energy adoption. According to Saxena, collaboration with local partners will help expand peer-to-peer energy trading while strengthening regional clean energy ecosystems.
CS Sunder Raju, Chairman and Director of the Atria Group, noted that the organization has long supported renewable energy development and community initiatives. The group began operations in 1960 and became India’s first private hydropower producer before expanding into other renewable energy segments including solar.
Mr Raju added that the partnership with Hygge Energy provides an opportunity to support innovative approaches to decentralized energy systems in Karnataka. He also highlighted the potential of emerging technologies such as carbon emissions tracking and carbon credit mechanisms to create new opportunities within peer-to-peer energy markets.
Hygge Energy’s initiatives in Karnataka have also enabled the development of new financing approaches for rooftop solar and battery storage projects. The company has introduced a model that uses tokenization of energy assets linked to digital currency infrastructure, which could help expand financing options for solar installations.
This approach is expected to support installers such as Atria Renewable in expanding rooftop solar deployment while contributing to local job creation and broader clean energy adoption across urban communities. Through the partnership, the companies aim to accelerate distributed solar adoption in Bengaluru while allowing consumers to participate more actively in energy markets through decentralized electricity trading systems.
