Hindustan Zinc Limited (BSE: 500188 | NSE: HINDZINC), the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and among the top five global silver producers, has been declared the successful bidder for an amalgamated potash and halite mineral block in Rajasthan. The declaration follows the completion of all statutory requirements, marking the conclusion of a competitive bidding process initiated by the Government of India.
The company had earlier emerged as the preferred bidder through a transparent e-auction conducted by the Union Government. With all approvals, documentation, and compliance procedures now in place, the formal recognition as the successful bidder represents a key milestone in Hindustan Zinc’s expansion into critical and strategic minerals. This development aligns with the company’s broader vision of diversifying its resource base while contributing to India’s long-term mineral security and economic resilience.
The awarded block is located in the Jhandawali-Satipura composite license (CL) block in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district and spans over 1,800 hectares. The allocation was made under Tranche V of the Government’s e-auction programme for mineral blocks. This addition strengthens Hindustan Zinc’s growing footprint in the critical minerals segment.
In recent developments, the company has also secured a tungsten and associated mineral block in Andhra Pradesh after receiving a composite license from the state government. Additionally, it was named the preferred bidder for a Rare Earth Elements block in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district, further underlining its strategic focus on future-facing mineral assets.
Commenting on the development, Arun Misra, CEO and Whole-time Director of Hindustan Zinc Limited, said, “The transition from preferred bidder to successful bidder for the potash block demonstrates our ability to execute efficiently while advancing our commitment to securing critical mineral resources for the nation. As India accelerates efforts toward self-reliance, this milestone reinforces our position in the critical minerals space. We remain confident in leveraging our technical expertise to unlock the full potential of this asset.”
Potash is a key input for the fertiliser industry and plays a vital role in the production of NPK fertilisers, which are essential for supporting India’s agricultural output. At present, India is entirely dependent on imports to meet its potash demand, sourcing supplies from countries including Canada, Belarus, Jordan, and South Korea. The acquisition of domestic potash resources is expected to reduce reliance on imports, enhance supply security, and support the availability of cost-effective fertilisers for farmers.
Hindustan Zinc continues to focus on building a portfolio of high-quality mineral assets with strong long-term potential. By leveraging its expertise in exploration, project development, and responsible mining practices, the company aims to create sustained value while supporting the country’s strategic resource requirements.
