Hindustan Zinc Limited, part of the Vedanta Group and the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, is reaffirming its dedication to preserving India’s rich artistic heritage while driving inclusive and sustainable development. The company has invested significantly in reviving traditional Indian art forms, such as Ajrakh block printing, tribal Gavri dance, and the Pakhavaj, as part of its broader vision to integrate cultural preservation with economic empowerment.
In collaboration with artisan networks and NGOs, Hindustan Zinc has established a block printing unit in Ajmer, providing employment to 18 women skilled in traditional techniques. The company has also launched an Ajrakh printing initiative to further promote the art of textile printing. These initiatives are part of Hindustan Zinc’s clothing brand, Upaya, which champions traditional craftsmanship and offers sustainable livelihoods to rural women, empowering them with skills, income, and pride in their craft. Sharmila, a trainee from the Sakhi block printing unit, shared, “Being part of this initiative has not only taught me a skill but also helped me stand on my own feet.”
Hindustan Zinc continues to support the performing arts, exemplified by the Vedanta Udaipur World Music Festival, which brings together artists from diverse musical genres. This event helps amplify Rajasthan’s cultural identity, while also reviving traditional instruments and musical practices. In addition, the company’s Srajan – The Spark and Smritiyaan initiatives work to elevate Indian art on global platforms and preserve classical music heritage.
Hindustan Zinc also hosted SakhiUtsav in 2025 across five locations, celebrating the strength of 7,000 women through performances, wellness sessions, sports, financial literacy camps, and street plays (nukkadnataks). Through the Uthori campaign, Hindustan Zinc reached over 11,000 students, addressing issues such as menstrual hygiene, domestic violence, and child marriage via interactive performances. With more than 2,000 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across 200 villages, the Sakhi initiative has empowered over 25,000 rural and tribal women in leadership, entrepreneurship, and financial independence.
These efforts are part of Hindustan Zinc’s comprehensive social impact framework, which spans education, healthcare, nutrition, water, sanitation, skill development, sports, and culture. The company has impacted over 2 million lives across nearly 4,000 villages.
As the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, Hindustan Zinc plays a crucial role in the energy transition and provides critical metals for a sustainable future. The company has been recognized as the most sustainable in the metals and mining sector for two consecutive years by the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment.
