Hindustan Zinc Expands BIS-Certified Zinc Alloy Portfolio with HZDA 5

Hindustan Zinc Limited has expanded its Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)-certified product portfolio with the inclusion of Hindustan Zinc Die-Casting Alloy 5 (HZDA 5) under its existing BIS licence. The certification strengthens the company’s range of quality-assured zinc alloys and provides customers with greater confidence in product consistency, performance and compliance with national quality standards.

The latest certification means both HZDA 3 and HZDA 5 are now covered under BIS standards, reinforcing Hindustan Zinc’s position as a reliable supplier of certified zinc alloys for domestic and international markets. The move comes as industries increasingly seek materials that meet recognised quality benchmarks while supporting dependable manufacturing operations.

The Bureau of Indian Standards certification serves as India’s national quality assurance framework, verifying that products conform to established specifications for quality, safety, reliability and performance. For manufacturers and industrial buyers, BIS certification offers greater assurance regarding material consistency, process control and product integrity.

Commenting on the development, Arun Misra, Chief Executive Officer and Whole-Time Director of Hindustan Zinc, said the inclusion of HZDA 5 under the company’s BIS licence reflects its continued commitment to delivering products that meet stringent quality expectations. He noted that certification goes beyond regulatory compliance by providing customers with confidence in product reliability and long-term value, particularly as industries increasingly prioritise high-performance and responsibly manufactured materials.

HZDA 3 and HZDA 5 have been developed for applications where dimensional accuracy, durability and mechanical strength are critical. Zinc die-casting alloys are widely used in automotive, engineering, infrastructure and industrial manufacturing, where material quality plays an important role in determining the performance and service life of finished components.

The expansion of the certified alloy portfolio aligns with evolving procurement practices, where manufacturers are placing greater emphasis on certified products, reliable sourcing and responsible production. Certified materials help reduce sourcing risks, support wider market acceptance and ensure compliance with recognised quality specifications.

The certification also reflects Hindustan Zinc’s quality management framework, which integrates stringent controls across sourcing, manufacturing, testing and product delivery. The company has implemented technology-driven systems, including Laboratory Information Management Systems and Agile Quality Circle practices, to strengthen process monitoring, traceability and quality assurance. These initiatives are complemented by international certifications such as REACH and the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA), further reinforcing adherence to global standards.

The addition of HZDA 5 enhances Hindustan Zinc’s broader portfolio of refined zinc, lead, silver, zinc alloys and low-carbon metal offerings, including its EcoZen brand. The company is also expanding customer engagement through digital platforms such as Vedanta Metal Bazaar, improving accessibility, transparency and procurement efficiency across the supply chain.
