Hindustan Zinc Limited (BSE: 500188 | NSE: HINDZINC), the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and among the top 10 silver producers globally, has signed a six-year transportation contract with MFL India Limited for the deployment of 30 electric trucks to transport zinc and lead concentrates, marking another significant step in the company’s mine-to-smelter decarbonisation programme. The contract, which can be extended by an additional two years, will progressively replace conventional diesel vehicles operating between Rampura Agucha, the world’s largest underground zinc mining operation, and Hindustan Zinc’s smelting facilities in Rajasthan.

Under the agreement, MFL India will progressively introduce the electric truck fleet and establish and operate dedicated EV charging infrastructure along the transportation network. The charging ecosystem is designed to provide reliable support for the fleet and enable the integration of electric mobility into a critical industrial logistics route. The initiative is also aimed at creating a scalable model for cleaner and more efficient transportation while maintaining operational reliability across the mine-to-smelter supply chain.

Amarendu Prakash, CEO & Whole-time Director, Hindustan Zinc Limited, said, “The future of mining will be defined not only by the metals we produce, but by how responsibly and efficiently we produce and move them. The contract for deployment of EV trucks for concentrate transportation is yet another step towards that future, demonstrating how industrial decarbonisation can strengthen competitiveness while creating an ecosystem in which our partners and communities grow with us.”

Recognising the higher capital requirements associated with emerging mobility technologies such as electric vehicles and LNG vehicles, Hindustan Zinc is working with MFL to implement the transition in phases. Conventional vehicles will be progressively replaced as the EV fleet and charging infrastructure are established, while the company will continue to support the participation of local drivers in its transportation network.

Anil Thukral, Chairman & Managing Director, MFL India Limited, said, “We are proud to partner with Hindustan Zinc in advancing the transition to cleaner industrial logistics. This deployment demonstrates how electric mobility can be effectively integrated into large-scale transportation networks, supported by the right charging infrastructure and operational planning. Together, we are building a scalable model for sustainable logistics that delivers both environmental benefits and long-term operational value.”

The deployment builds on Hindustan Zinc’s expanding adoption of cleaner mobility across its integrated operations. During FY2026, the company added 42 electric vehicles for material transportation, taking its green logistics fleet to 232 vehicles, comprising 52 EVs and 180 LNG vehicles. The company has also pioneered the deployment of battery-electric vehicles in underground mining at Sindesar Khurd Mine in Rajpura Dariba, Rajasthan, and has continued to expand cleaner mobility across mining equipment, material transportation and workforce mobility.

The electrification initiative forms part of Hindustan Zinc’s broader decarbonisation roadmap, under which the company aims to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050 or sooner. Renewable energy now accounts for nearly 22% of its power mix, with the company continuing to invest in renewable power, electrification, energy efficiency and other low-carbon technologies across its operations and value chain. Hindustan Zinc also supplies its products to more than 35 countries and holds around 74% of India’s primary zinc market.
