Hinduja Renewables Energy Private Limited (HREPL), a company under the Hinduja Group, has appointed Deepak Thakur as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2025. Thakur brings over 30 years of cross-industry experience spanning renewable energy, infrastructure, electronics, and industrial manufacturing. His career includes leadership roles at major firms such as Mahindra Group, Reliance Industries, L&T, Honeywell, Thermax, and Sterling & Wilson.
He steps into the role following the departure of Sumit Pandey, who previously led the company. Mr Thakur’s background covers the full spectrum of clean energy — from solar and wind to hybrid systems and storage. His expertise includes project development, EPC, operations & maintenance, technology strategy, manufacturing, and monetization of assets through infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs).
Shom Hinduja, Chairman of HREPL, welcomed the leadership transition, stating “As we pursue our ambition to become a prominent player in the green energy sector, Deepak’s expertise will be instrumental in guiding our next phase of growth. We are pleased to welcome him aboard and extend our gratitude to Sumit for his pivotal role in shaping the company during its formative years.”
In response to his appointment, Deepak Thakur said “It’s an honor to join the Hinduja Group, especially at a time when the clean energy space is evolving rapidly. The group’s dedication to sustainability strongly aligns with India’s broader energy goals, and I am excited to contribute to this meaningful journey.”
A strong supporter of clean energy policy, Mr Thakur played a key role in developing India’s National Solar Thermal Policy in 2009 — a cornerstone in the country’s renewable energy roadmap. He holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Pune and an MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management.
Part of the diversified Hinduja Group, Hinduja Renewables is an independent renewable energy company focused on building scalable clean energy solutions. The firm is pursuing expansion across both centralized and distributed energy segments, including solar, hybrid, energy storage, offshore wind, and green hydrogen.
With a growing operational portfolio of solar assets across India, the company aims to develop several gigawatts of renewable capacity in the near future. Its strategy blends organic growth with acquisitions, and actively explores the intersection of clean energy and electric mobility.
