Hindalco Industries Ltd, the flagship metals company of the Aditya Birla Group, has become the newest member of the International Copper Association (ICA), a global body representing major players in the copper industry.
Established in 1958, Hindalco is a leading producer of copper and aluminum, supplying copper cathodes and continuous cast copper rods to both domestic and international markets. Rohit Pathak, CEO of Hindalco’s Copper Business, expressed enthusiasm for the new membership, stating, “Joining ICA allows us to collaborate on strengthening the copper value chain, a vital component in the world’s transition to net zero.” He added that India is poised to become a prominent market for copper and related products in the coming years.
ICA President Juan Ignacio Díaz welcomed Hindalco, acknowledging its role as a major global industry player aligned with ICA’s mission to drive sustainable human development. The ICA, a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., represents 33 members across six continents and operates in key regions including the US, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
The company, a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, is a global leader in aluminium and copper manufacturing. Established in 1958, Hindalco is one of the world’s largest producers of aluminium and rolled products, and it operates in over 10 countries.
The company is recognized for its fully integrated operations, from mining bauxite to producing finished aluminium products, serving industries such as automotive, packaging, aerospace, and construction. Hindalco’s acquisition of Novelis Inc. in 2007 further strengthened its position as a leading supplier of rolled aluminium products globally.
In addition to its aluminium business, Hindalco is a major player in the copper industry, producing a wide range of copper products, including rods, cathodes, and precious metals. The company is committed to sustainability, focusing on energy efficiency, recycling, and environmentally responsible practices, making it a key contributor to both India’s industrial growth and the global metals industry.
