HARTING Technology Group has unveiled its Size 15 circular connector, a compact and standardised solution developed to meet the evolving needs of decentralised industrial drive systems. As automation continues to shift toward distributed architectures, reliable and efficient electrical interfaces are becoming increasingly critical.
The Size 15 connector has been specifically engineered for asynchronous motors that operate without frequency control. By eliminating the need for complex electromagnetic compatibility shielding typically required in such systems, the design enables the use of durable plastic housings. This approach reduces overall weight, simplifies handling during installation, and offers a cost-efficient alternative without compromising performance.
In addition to its application in individual drive systems, the connector is well suited for daisy-chain configurations. This allows multiple low-power devices to be connected in sequence, supporting streamlined system layouts and reducing cabling complexity in modern industrial environments.
The interface is standardised in accordance with IEC 61076-2-115, ensuring compatibility across manufacturers and providing users with flexibility in sourcing components. The standard defines three configurations: a 630 V / 16 A version with three power contacts, a protective earth, and two signal contacts; a 48 V / 20 A version with two power contacts, a protective earth, and three signal contacts; and a 24 V / 20 A option designed for specialised applications. HARTING currently offers solutions for the 630 V and 48 V variants, enabling secure connection of systems with total power ratings of up to 16 kW or asynchronous motors up to 7.5 kW.
A key feature of the Size 15 connector is its bayonet locking mechanism, which ensures fast, secure, and vibration-resistant connections. This makes it particularly suitable for demanding industrial settings where reliability and ease of use are essential.
With this introduction, HARTING expands its portfolio by providing a standardised circular alternative that fills the gap between larger, metal-based connectors such as M23 and more compact solutions like M12. Previously, comparable performance levels were only available through rectangular connector formats.
The Size 15 connector represents a forward-looking solution tailored to the requirements of compact and decentralised drive technologies. By combining standardisation, performance, and ease of integration, HARTING continues to support the advancement of efficient and scalable industrial automation systems.
The HARTING Technology Group develops and manufactures connectivity solutions used in machinery, transportation, energy systems and telecommunications. With operations across multiple global markets, the company continues to invest in advanced engineering and technology development to support the increasing demands of industrial digitalization.
