Gruner Renewable Energy has established a new milestone in India’s renewable energy sector after its Compressed BioGas (CBG) facility in Satna recorded a single-day production of 23.5 tonnes of CBG, the highest output achieved by any CBG plant in Asia. The performance places the facility among the world’s best-performing bioenergy plants and ranks it as the second-highest performing CBG plant globally.
The Satna plant has also surpassed its rated production capacity by operating at 120% of its designed output, significantly exceeding industry averages, where many bio-CNG facilities continue to operate at substantially lower utilization levels. The achievement highlights the company’s engineering capabilities and operational efficiency while demonstrating the growing maturity of India’s bioenergy ecosystem.
The record production underscores the country’s ability to develop world-class renewable energy infrastructure capable of converting agricultural waste into clean transportation fuel at commercial scale. The facility processes agricultural residue and paddy straw to produce compressed biogas, supporting sustainable waste management while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating additional income opportunities for farmers.
A key factor behind the plant’s performance is the technological expertise provided by Gruner New Inergie Deutschland GmbH, the group’s Technical Excellence Centre in Germany. Backed by more than 25 years of international experience and involvement in over 500 bioenergy and biogas projects worldwide, the company has integrated global engineering practices with local execution to optimize plant performance and operational reliability.
Commenting on the achievement, Utkarsh Gupta, Founder and CEO of Gruner Renewable Energy, said the milestone reflects the company’s commitment to building globally competitive renewable energy infrastructure in India. He noted that achieving production beyond the plant’s designed capacity demonstrates the potential of the country’s bioenergy sector to transform agricultural waste into clean fuel while supporting rural livelihoods, strengthening energy security and advancing national sustainability goals.
Mehmet Oenal, Chief Operating Officer of Gruner New Inergie Deutschland GmbH, said the achievement represents an important milestone for India’s bioenergy industry, proving that Indian renewable energy projects can match global standards in efficiency, technology and operational performance.
The development comes as India continues to promote biofuels through initiatives such as the Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) programme and the National Bioenergy Programme. Gruner Renewable Energy has been actively supporting these efforts through the execution of large-scale CBG projects across multiple states.
The company currently has an order book exceeding ₹4,500 crore and is executing more than 72 Compressed BioGas projects across India. These projects are expected to strengthen the country’s clean energy infrastructure while generating employment, promoting circular economy practices and expanding the use of renewable fuels.
Founded in February 2023 and headquartered in Noida, Gruner Renewable Energy has quickly grown, currently managing over 63 projects. The company is actively developing Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants across 12 states in India, contributing to the country’s clean energy transition. Additionally, Astute Synergies Private Limited, part of Gruner Group, is innovating within the biogas industry by introducing membrane-based technology, which cuts installation costs by 40% and eliminates methane leakage, setting new standards for cost-efficiency and sustainability.
Gruner Group is focused on fostering innovation through strategic investments in emerging startups and diversifying its business across new industries. With a strong emphasis on technology, sustainability, and long-term value creation, the company is committed to driving sustainable development across various sectors.
