Chartered Speed Limited has stepped up its electric mobility expansion with the rollout of nearly 3,000 electric buses across 18 cities under the Pradhan Mantri e-Bus Sewa and e-Drive Scheme. The initiative is aimed at strengthening sustainable public transportation while extending high-quality urban transit services to Tier-II and Tier-III cities across the country.
The large-scale deployment is expected to significantly enhance urban connectivity while contributing to cleaner mobility. Once the complete fleet is operational, the buses are projected to collectively cover nearly 20 crore green kilometres annually, helping reduce carbon emissions and improve access to reliable public transport.
As part of the nationwide programme, Chartered Speed has commenced electric bus operations in Shillong, Jaipur and Bhilwara. These deployments mark another milestone in the company’s efforts to support India’s transition to zero-emission public transportation in partnership with state governments and transport authorities.
In Meghalaya, the company is deploying a fleet of 55 electric buses under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme. The fleet includes 25 nine-metre buses with seating capacity for 27 passengers and 30 seven-metre buses designed to accommodate 22 passengers. The service was inaugurated by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and is expected to improve urban mobility while encouraging greater adoption of electric transport in the state.
In Rajasthan, Chartered Speed has secured an order to deploy 876 electric buses across multiple cities. Jaipur will receive 318 buses, while Bhilwara has been allocated 50 buses. The first phase has already begun, with 29 buses entering service in Jaipur and 18 buses operating in Bhilwara. The remaining vehicles will be introduced in stages over the coming months.
Beyond fleet expansion, the company is strengthening the operational ecosystem required to support large-scale electric mobility. Investments are being made in driver recruitment, skill development, regular training programmes and digital fleet management systems. An integrated Command and Control Centre enables real-time vehicle monitoring, operational planning and service optimisation, ensuring higher levels of safety, efficiency and passenger convenience.
Commenting on the development, Sanyam Gandhi, Whole-Time Director of Chartered Speed Limited, said the commencement of operations in Shillong, Jaipur and Bhilwara represents an important milestone in the company’s larger objective of deploying nearly 3,000 electric buses across 18 cities. He added that the initiative reflects the growing momentum of electric mobility in India and reinforces the company’s commitment to providing efficient, environmentally responsible and technology-driven public transport solutions.
Established in 2007, Chartered Speed Limited has evolved into one of India’s leading passenger mobility companies, operating a fleet of more than 2,000 buses across multiple states. The company continues to work with governments, educational institutions and corporate organisations to expand modern, sustainable and technology-enabled public transportation across the country.
