The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), will host the 24th edition of the Green Building Congress (GBC) 2026 from November 26 to 28 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The three-day event will bring together government representatives, industry leaders, developers, architects, engineers, financial institutions, technology providers, academia and global sustainability experts to discuss the next phase of India’s green building movement.

Themed “Forging a Sustainable Future – Do Good, Feel Good. Building Greener Worlds Together,” GBC 2026 will focus on accelerating the shift from individual green buildings to net zero buildings, resilient infrastructure and sustainable cities. India’s rapid urbanisation and infrastructure development are increasing the need for buildings that use resources efficiently and can withstand climate-related challenges. The organisers said the scale of development makes sustainable construction an important part of India’s long-term growth.

Over the past 25 years, CII–IGBC has worked to promote green buildings through rating systems, training programmes, conferences, workshops and industry engagement. The council now has more than 20,000 registered projects, covering approximately 16.33 billion square feet, giving India one of the world’s largest green building footprints.

The Green Building Congress has attracted more than 2 lakh participants across its previous editions, becoming a platform for sharing technologies, policies and practices related to sustainable construction. The 2026 edition will focus on areas including energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, renewable energy, responsible materials, circularity, carbon reduction and climate resilience. Discussions will also examine the role of green finance, policy support, technology and industry collaboration in achieving measurable environmental performance. CII–IGBC’s Mission on Net Zero, launched in 2021, covers Net Zero Energy, Water, Waste and Carbon. More than 350 organisations from the building sector have committed to achieving Net Zero status for new and existing buildings.

C Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, CII–IGBC, said India is at an important stage of its development and that sustainability needs to become part of every development decision. He said Green Building Congress provides stakeholders with a platform to exchange knowledge and turn sustainability commitments into action. AR Unnikrishnan, National Vice Chairman, CII–IGBC, said the next stage of the green building movement must focus on scaling solutions from individual projects to cities and infrastructure.

The event will also connect India’s green building sector with the World Green Building Council and its 85 member Green Building Councils, along with international delegations and sustainability experts. GBC 2026 is expected to attract more than 3,000 delegates, 10,000 business visitors, 150 thought leaders and 100 institutional and industry partners, along with a Green Building Expo.

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) was founded by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 2001 to advance the green building movement across the country. With 32 chapters nationwide, IGBC engages stakeholders from industry, government, architecture, product manufacturing and academia. India today has 14.80 billion sq ft of registered green building footprint across more than 18,125 projects spanning 32 IGBC rating systems. With nearly 90 percent of India’s green building projects adopting IGBC Green and Net Zero Rating Systems, the Council continues to lead the nation’s transition toward a future-ready, resource-efficient and climate-resilient built environment.
