Greaves Electric Mobility Limited (GEML), the electric mobility arm of Greaves Cotton Limited, has announced plans to introduce the Ampere 6th-Generation Electric Scooter, an upcoming model designed to compete directly with India’s high-volume petrol scooter segment and accelerate the company’s growth in the electric two-wheeler market.

The new scooter, part of the Ampere brand portfolio, is scheduled for launch in FY27. Positioned in the sub-₹1 lakh category, it aims to deliver stronger performance, practical usability, and lower ownership costs—factors that continue to drive demand in India’s mass scooter market. This segment has traditionally been dominated by petrol-powered models known for convenience and quick refuelling, but GEML believes changing consumer priorities and advances in EV technology are creating opportunities for electric alternatives.

According to Vikas Singh, Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer at Greaves Electric Mobility Limited, the sub-₹1 lakh category offers the largest volume potential in India’s scooter market. He said the upcoming model reflects the company’s strategy of building scalable products for high-demand segments while supporting the transition toward cleaner transportation. The scooter has been engineered for everyday Indian riding conditions, with a focus on durability, efficiency, and long-term affordability.

The Ampere 6th-Generation Electric Scooter is being developed with features intended to match or exceed expectations from entry-level petrol scooters. These include higher torque for faster pickup and improved load handling, enhanced hill-climbing capability for flyovers and uneven terrain, and significantly lower running costs through home charging and reduced maintenance needs. The model will also include connected features such as over-the-air software updates, remote diagnostics, and smart system integration to enhance the ownership experience.

Ampere currently has more than three lakh electric vehicles on Indian roads and supports customers through over 400 service touchpoints across the country. The addition of the new model will expand its product range and provide first-time EV buyers with an option that combines petrol-like usability with the cost and environmental advantages of electric mobility.

GEML operates manufacturing facilities in Hyderabad, Noida, and Ranipet and serves both electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler markets. Through its parent company’s network of engineering, retail, finance, and technology businesses, Greaves continues to invest in innovation, digital integration, and sustainable growth.

The launch of the Ampere 6th-Generation Electric Scooter marks another step in GEML’s mission to make electric mobility practical, affordable, and accessible for Indian families, while supporting the country’s shift toward cleaner transportation solutions. Greaves Electric Mobility Limited is one of India’s early players in electric mobility, with over 17 years of experience in EV design and manufacturing.

The company operates plants in Hyderabad, Noida, and Ranipet and serves both electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler segments through a network of more than 400 dealer points. Through its subsidiaries MLR Auto Limited and Bestway Agencies Private Limited, the company continues to expand its reach while promoting affordable and sustainable mobility solutions for India.
