Embraer and Hindalco Industries Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to study potential collaborations in aerospace-grade aluminium production in India. The agreement focuses on evaluating opportunities in raw material manufacturing that could support Embraer’s future industrial plans while contributing to India’s goal of expanding domestic aerospace capabilities under the Make in India programme.
Roberto Chaves, Executive Vice President of Global Procurement and Supply Chain at Embraer, said the partnership highlights the company’s effort to work with Indian suppliers and strengthen the local industrial ecosystem. He noted that identifying capable domestic partners can help build a stronger supply chain and create lasting value across the aerospace sector.
The agreement comes as Embraer continues to deepen its presence in India and engage with industry leaders and government agencies. As part of its ongoing assessment, the company has reviewed various manufacturing strengths in the country, including aerostructure assembly, machining, metal forming, composite fabrication, wiring systems, and both hardware and software development.
India remains an important market for Embraer across its commercial, executive, and defence businesses. The company currently has 47 aircraft operating in the country, including five VIP jets used by the Indian government and three EMB-145 AEW “Netra” aircraft flown by the Indian Air Force.
Headquartered in Brazil, Embraer designs and produces aircraft for commercial aviation, business aviation, defence, and agricultural use, and also provides global support services. Since its founding in 1969, the company has delivered more than 9,000 aircraft and is a leading manufacturer of regional jets with up to 150 seats.
Hindalco, the metals flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, is one of the world’s largest aluminium producers by revenue and a major copper manufacturer. Its operations cover the full value chain, from mining bauxite and refining alumina to aluminium smelting, rolling, extrusions, and recycling. Through its subsidiary Novelis, Hindalco is a global leader in flat-rolled aluminium products and aluminium recycling. The MoU reflects growing cooperation between aerospace manufacturers and metals companies as India strengthens its capabilities in advanced manufacturing and global supply chains.
