Gravita India Limited has announced plans to expand its copper recycling operations by adding 59,200 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of capacity at its existing facility in Mundra, Gujarat. The planned expansion will be implemented in phases and represents an investment of approximately ₹64 crore. The company will fund the project through internal accruals, with the additional capacity expected to be commissioned in phases by March 31, 2029.
The expanded Mundra facility will process copper-bearing recyclable materials and recover copper and other valuable materials through advanced recycling processes. The investment is expected to strengthen Gravita’s position in the non-ferrous metal recycling industry and increase its ability to meet rising demand for recycled copper.
The project will also support backward integration for Gravita’s proposed Mandvi plant in Gujarat. This is expected to strengthen the company’s raw material sourcing and processing capabilities while creating greater integration across its copper recycling operations.
Mundra’s location provides an additional advantage for the expansion. Situated close to one of India’s major ports and connected to important transportation networks, the facility can support efficient movement of recyclable materials and finished products. The company expects the new capacity to serve both domestic and international markets. Increased recycling capability will also allow Gravita to recover more valuable materials from recyclable waste and reduce dependence on primary raw materials.
The expansion forms part of Gravita’s broader strategy to increase its presence in copper recycling and strengthen its non-ferrous metal portfolio. Copper is increasingly important across electrical equipment, renewable energy, electric mobility, infrastructure and other industries, creating growing demand for both primary and recycled metal.
By expanding its copper recycling capacity, Gravita aims to improve resource utilisation and support the development of a circular economy. The company expects the project to create operational synergies with its existing facilities and improve the efficiency of its wider recycling network. The investment also supports Gravita’s strategy of pursuing organic capacity expansion alongside strategic investments and acquisitions. The company is building an integrated recycling platform covering several materials and geographies.
Gravita Group operates across multiple recycling segments, including lead, aluminium, copper, rubber, plastics and lithium. Its operations focus on recovering useful materials from waste and converting them into products that can be reused across industrial applications. The company continues to expand its recycling infrastructure as industries increasingly seek sustainable sources of raw materials and greater resource efficiency.
The Mundra copper expansion is expected to become an important part of Gravita’s non-ferrous recycling business. With the additional 59,200 MTPA capacity, the company plans to strengthen its ability to recover copper from recyclable materials while supporting customers in India and overseas.
