Gravita India Limited (Gravita), a leading company in the recycling industry, has announced the commissioning of a new lithium-ion battery recycling facility in Mundra, Gujarat, with an annual capacity of 6,000 MTPA. The project has been set up with an investment of approximately Rs 14 crore, funded through the company’s internal accruals. With this facility, Gravita expands its recycling portfolio to include lithium-ion batteries—an area gaining importance as electric mobility and energy storage solutions see rapid adoption worldwide.
The Mundra plant has been developed to support safe and responsible processing of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries, helping reduce environmental risks while recovering usable materials. The company stated that the facility is designed to minimise the release of toxic substances and reduce waste generation by deploying advanced recycling systems and modern process controls.
Gravita said its entry into lithium-ion battery recycling strengthens its long-term focus on sustainability and resource conservation. The initiative supports the circular economy by enabling the recovery and reuse of valuable materials, reducing dependency on fresh mining of critical raw materials used in battery manufacturing.
With the demand for electric vehicles continuing to rise, Gravita aims to build a strong position in the evolving battery recycling value chain. The company also indicated plans to broaden its recycling operations over time and work closely with companies in the EV and renewable energy sectors to enhance its processing and recovery capabilities.
Gravita India Limited is a global recycling company with 13 eco-focused manufacturing facilities worldwide, with a combined recycling capacity of 3,45,659 MTPA.
