Goodluck India Limited has announced that its subsidiary, GDAL, has emerged as the sole technically qualified bidder for the supply of specialised 155 mm HE M1A4 ready-to-fill artillery shells to Munitions India Limited (MIL). The qualification follows an audit and technical evaluation of existing suppliers and their manufacturing facilities. According to Goodluck India, GDAL was identified as the only bidder meeting the technical requirements for the specialised product.

The development marks a step in the company’s efforts to expand its defence manufacturing business and participate in India’s domestic defence supply chain. The qualification establishes GDAL’s technical eligibility for potential business opportunities involving the specified artillery shells. Any supply arrangement remains subject to the applicable procurement process, commercial terms, contractual requirements and orders from Munitions India Limited.

Mahesh Chandra Garg, Chairman of Goodluck India Limited, said the qualification reflected the subsidiary’s manufacturing capabilities, quality standards and technical preparedness to meet the requirements of the defence sector. He said the company viewed the development as an important milestone in building its defence business and would continue to invest in manufacturing capabilities and compliance standards. Garg added that the qualification could provide a basis for pursuing further opportunities in the sector while supporting India’s efforts to increase domestic defence manufacturing.

Goodluck India said its defence business forms part of a wider engineering portfolio that includes high-end forgings, steel structures for railway and infrastructure projects, automotive tubing and other manufactured products. The company supplies customers across several industries, including automotive, railways, renewable energy, construction and oil and gas.

Founded in 1986, Goodluck India operates six manufacturing plants across Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. The company reports total production capacity of 500,000 metric tonnes per annum, including 285,000 metric tonnes of value-added products. It serves more than 600 customers globally and exports to over 100 countries.

Its subsidiary, Goodluck Defence & Aerospace, operates a dedicated defence manufacturing facility with an annual capacity of 150,000 shells. The company has said that capacity is being expanded to 400,000 shells per year. The latest qualification follows the company’s focus on specialised defence manufacturing and the development of products for India’s domestic market. Goodluck India said its participation in the sector is aligned with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which aims to strengthen domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports.

The company employs more than 4,000 people and has identified technology investment, product diversification and expansion into higher-value manufacturing as priorities for its business. The technical qualification does not itself confirm an order or contract award. Any future supply of 155 mm HE M1A4 ready-to-fill artillery shells to Munitions India Limited will depend on the completion of the required procurement and contracting procedures.
