HCL Limited, one of India’s leading chemical manufacturers, has reported an 11% year-on-year increase in standalone net revenue to Rs. 821 crore for the second quarter of FY27, compared with Rs. 739 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. The company’s EBITDA increased by 16% to Rs. 202 crore from Rs. 175 crore in Q2 FY26. Net profit registered a growth of 19%, reaching Rs. 127 crore against Rs. 107 crore in the same period last year.
For the first half of FY27, GHCL recorded net revenue of Rs. 1,619 crore, registering a 4% increase over Rs. 1,562 crore in H1 FY26. EBITDA grew by 9% to Rs. 435 crore from Rs. 399 crore, while net profit increased by 26% to Rs. 319 crore compared with Rs. 252 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Commenting on the financial performance, RS Jalan, Managing Director, GHCL Limited, said the global soda ash industry continued to face pricing pressure during the second quarter due to excess supply and sustained import competition. He noted that these conditions are likely to continue over the next few quarters.
Despite the challenging market environment, the company maintained its financial performance through its low-cost manufacturing structure, operational efficiencies and focus on controlling production costs. GHCL continued to strengthen its business diversification and backward integration initiatives during the quarter. The company commenced commercial production of vacuum salt, using waste heat recovered from its soda ash manufacturing operations. This project is expected to improve energy utilisation while supporting the company’s expansion into additional product categories.
Following the close of the quarter, GHCL also commenced commercial production of bromine, marking another step in its diversification programme. The company will now focus on improving the utilisation and performance of its newly commissioned vacuum salt and bromine facilities.
Mr. Jalan said the company’s priorities include operational excellence, optimising new production capacities and progressing with its long-term greenfield expansion plans. He added that strong domestic demand, efficient manufacturing operations and a sound balance sheet would help GHCL manage the current industry conditions and deliver long-term value.
GHCL is the country’s largest soda ash manufacturer at a single location. Its manufacturing facility at Sutrapada, Gujarat, has an installed production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per annum. Soda ash is an important raw material for the glass and detergent industries and is also used in the production of sodium bicarbonate. Its applications are expanding in areas such as solar glass and lithium-ion batteries.
Sustainability remains an important part of GHCL’s business strategy under its four-pillar framework, the GHCL Way, which focuses on responsible stewardship, social inclusiveness, relationship building and value creation. Through investments in new products, operational improvements and backward integration, GHCL aims to strengthen its manufacturing base and expand its presence in the chemical industry.
