Geekplus Co, Ltd, a global provider of warehouse automation and mobile robotics solutions, has expanded its collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation through the deployment of 436 moving-type Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) across multiple manufacturing facilities in Japan. The large-scale implementation marks a significant step in advancing automated in-plant logistics and improving manufacturing efficiency at Toyota’s production sites.

The deployment forms part of Toyota’s broader strategy to modernize factory logistics in response to growing labour shortages, changing workforce demographics and evolving regulations affecting the transportation sector. By introducing intelligent automation into material handling operations, the company aims to improve productivity while creating a safer and more efficient workplace.

The moving-type AMRs are designed to automate the transportation of materials across various stages of manufacturing, including inbound receiving, storage, picking and production processing areas. The robots replace manual transportation tasks traditionally performed by workers, allowing employees to focus on higher-value activities while reducing physical strain associated with repetitive material movement.

Each automation system has been scaled to operate approximately 200 robots, demonstrating the ability of the technology to support high-volume manufacturing environments. The AMRs navigate autonomously using advanced sensors and digital mapping technologies, enabling safe and accurate movement throughout factory facilities without human intervention.

In addition to improving operational efficiency, the deployment is expected to enhance workplace safety by reducing interactions between personnel and conventional material handling equipment such as forklifts and towing vehicles. The system also captures movement data throughout the manufacturing process, providing real-time visibility into inventory flows and enabling more informed operational planning and decision-making.

Geekplus will continue supporting Toyota through ongoing maintenance services, technical training and operational guidance to ensure effective use of the automation systems. The company will also share best practices and expertise to help standardise in-plant logistics processes and drive continuous productivity improvements across Toyota’s manufacturing network.

Commenting on the collaboration, Hirokazu Kato, Chief Executive Officer of Geekplus Japan, said the company is proud to contribute to the operational efficiency of one of the world’s leading automotive manufacturers. He noted that Toyota’s adoption of Geekplus technology reflects confidence in the company’s engineering capabilities and flexible automation solutions, which improve productivity while creating a safer working environment for logistics personnel and factory employees.

Moving-type Autonomous Mobile Robots are increasingly being adopted across manufacturing and logistics industries as companies seek greater flexibility and efficiency in internal material handling. Unlike traditional conveyor systems or fixed automation infrastructure, AMRs can be rapidly reconfigured through software to accommodate production changes, layout modifications and varying manufacturing requirements.

Geekplus has established itself as a global leader in mobile robotics and warehouse automation, with its intelligent automation solutions deployed by more than 950 companies worldwide. The latest deployment at Toyota further strengthens the company’s presence in advanced manufacturing and demonstrates the growing role of autonomous robotics in transforming industrial logistics and supply chain operations.
