GAIL and the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RRVUNL) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the possibility of transferring two of RRVUNL’s gas-powered generation assets to a newly established joint venture company (JVC).
This agreement marks the beginning of a collaborative effort between the two organizations, which also involves the joint development of approximately 1,000 MW of rooftop solar and wind energy projects. These initiatives will be pursued on land where round-the-clock (RTC) power production is feasible.
The MoU outlines that a detailed examination will be carried out to assess the viability of this venture. This includes comprehensive legal due diligence, as well as economic and technical feasibility studies. These evaluations will help determine the potential effectiveness and success of the project before the joint venture is formally established.
Additionally, GAIL operates a 1,090 km network of natural gas pipelines serving various industrial clients in Rajasthan, including regions such as Bhiwadi, Neemrana, Khuskhera, Kota, Jaisalmer, and Chittorgarh. Notable clients within this network include Shriram Fertilisers and Chambal Fertilisers.
GAIL also supplies natural gas to 19 certified City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies operating throughout various districts in Rajasthan. These districts include prominent locations such as Kota, Bhilwara, Bhiwadi, Chittorgarh, Jodhpur, and several others, ensuring widespread coverage and service.
In terms of infrastructure, GAIL owns and manages the 1427 km long Jamnagar-Loni LPG Pipeline. Additionally, the company plays a crucial role in supplying the polymers required for producing LDPE and HDPE pipes, which are integral to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project in Rajasthan.
GAIL (Gas Authority of India Limited) and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RRVUNL) have joined forces to enhance energy infrastructure in India. GAIL, a leading natural gas provider, and RRVUNL, a key player in power generation, are collaborating on a significant initiative to explore the transfer of gas-based power assets and develop large-scale renewable energy projects, including rooftop solar and wind installations.
