FOTON Motor has partnered with COSCO SHIPPING Special Transport to establish Guangzhou Yuanfu Automotive Supply Chain Co, Ltd, marking a significant step in building an integrated global logistics framework for automotive exports. The joint venture was officially launched on March 26, alongside the delivery of a roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessel and the departure of an initial shipment of 600 FOTON pickup trucks bound for South America.
The initiative represents a shift in FOTON Motor’s international strategy, moving beyond conventional vehicle exports toward a more comprehensive, system-driven global expansion model. By combining manufacturing scale with dedicated shipping capacity, the company aims to enhance control over its supply chain and improve efficiency across overseas operations.
FOTON Motor has maintained a leading position among Chinese commercial vehicle exporters for 15 consecutive years. In 2025, the company recorded overseas sales of 164,500 units, bringing its cumulative international sales to more than 1.25 million vehicles across over 140 countries and regions.
The joint venture is designed to address challenges associated with global trade volatility, including fluctuations in freight costs and uncertainties in delivery timelines. Through this collaboration, COSCO SHIPPING contributes its extensive maritime logistics network, while FOTON Motor provides a steady export volume, creating a mutually beneficial partnership.
By securing access to dedicated shipping resources, FOTON Motor expects to achieve improvements in delivery reliability, cost management, and long-term planning. The venture will offer customized logistics solutions for both fully assembled vehicles and knock-down (KD) parts, strengthening the company’s ability to respond to diverse market requirements.
Company representatives подчеркнули that the establishment of the joint venture reflects the scale and maturity of FOTON Motor’s international business. The collaboration is also seen as a model for deeper integration between the automotive and shipping sectors, enabling greater efficiency and coordination across global supply chains.
The “automaker plus shipping” approach introduced through this partnership provides a framework that could be replicated by other automotive manufacturers seeking to expand internationally. By aligning production and logistics more closely, companies can better manage risks, optimise operations, and support sustainable growth in competitive global markets. This development positions FOTON Motor to further strengthen its global presence while enhancing supply chain resilience through strategic partnerships and infrastructure investment.
