Flender has inaugurated a new generator production facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, expanding its manufacturing capacity for the growing wind energy market in India. The new site strengthens Flender’s generator business under its Winergy brand and adds to the company’s global production network for wind drivetrain solutions. The facility is designed to support increasing demand for wind power equipment while bringing manufacturing and supply chain operations closer to customers in India.

The inauguration ceremony on August 19 was attended by customers, suppliers and other stakeholders from across the wind industry. Wind turbines depend on drivetrain systems to convert the rotational movement of the turbine into electricity. Flender, through Winergy, supplies a broad range of drivetrain products, including gearboxes, generators, direct-drive components and couplings, along with services for different drivetrain brands.

The Chennai facility is part of Flender’s wider effort to expand its wind business in India and increase local manufacturing. The company is also working to localise more parts of its supply chain, including integrated winding operations. By increasing its production presence in India, Flender expects to respond more quickly to customer requirements and reduce delivery times. The investment is also aimed at strengthening the company’s ability to support the expansion of wind power capacity in the country.

Joerg Sieber, Vice President, Wind Generators, Flender, said the new facility marks an important milestone for the company’s Winergy business in India. “The inauguration of our new generator site is an important milestone in the growth journey of our Winergy business in India. It reinforces our long-term commitment to our customers and to the whole wind industry,” Mr Sieber said.

Vinod Shetty, Country CEO, Flender India, said the new plant would help meet rising demand for wind power solutions while supporting local industrial development and skilled employment. “The new facility will support the increasing demand for wind power solutions, while also contributing to local industrial development and skilled employment. This investment continues the successful localization efforts at our Indian locations and underscores Flender’s broader commitment under the Winergy brand to accelerate deployment of renewable energy,” Mr Shetty said.

The company said the investment will strengthen its position in India’s renewable energy supply chain and create additional opportunities for local manufacturing and skilled jobs. Flender has more than 125 years of experience in drivetrain technology and supplies gear units, couplings, generators and digitally enabled lifecycle services to several industries. Its Flender and Winergy brands serve sectors including wind energy, mining, cement, power generation, plastics and rubber, defence, marine and metals.
