Epson India, the local arm of Japan’s Seiko Epson Corporation, has unveiled its inaugural ink-tank printer manufacturing facility near Chennai. This new plant, located in Sriperumbudur, marks Epson’s first manufacturing venture in India and supports the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, according to Seiko Epson Corporation’s Global President, Junkichi Yoshida.
Developed in partnership with Epson’s manufacturing partner, RIKUN, the facility underscores the company’s dedication to local production and its focus on sustainable innovation. Yoshida emphasized the importance of India to Epson’s global strategy, citing the country’s fast-growing economy, dynamic young population, and advancing digital landscape.
“This is a historic moment for Epson. India represents a key market for us, with tremendous opportunities for innovation and leadership,” Mr Yoshida stated during the inauguration. The plant is set to start operations in October 2025, with the initial focus on producing Epson’s flagship EcoTank printers, which are known for their high-capacity, cartridge-free printing, offering both cost savings and eco-friendliness.
The new facility aligns with Epson’s wider strategy to localize its manufacturing operations, improve supply chain flexibility, and support India’s economic growth. “Epson is more than just a printing company—our core expertise lies in precision engineering, imaging, and robotics. Innovation and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do,” Mr Yoshida added.
Since the launch of the EcoTank printer series, Epson has sold over 100 million units worldwide, with 8 million of those sold in India alone. Epson India President Samba Moorthy commented, “This new plant is a significant milestone in our growth journey in India. It demonstrates our long-term commitment to innovation and underscores our role in building a self-sustaining and sustainable manufacturing ecosystem in India. By manufacturing locally, we are better positioned to meet the needs of Indian consumers with increased efficiency.”
