Radar technology company Echodyne has announced plans to significantly increase production capacity through a new 86,350-square-foot facility. The site will provide space to manufacture and ship more than 30,000 radar units annually.

The company’s modular production model allows it to scale output across product lines and introduce new systems efficiently. The expansion supports rising demand for radar technology in the United States and allied nations, while reinforcing domestic defense manufacturing capabilities.

Growth is being driven by applications such as counter-drone operations, beyond-visual-line-of-sight missions, drone-based emergency response, border protection, and mobile surveillance. Echodyne’s metamaterials electronically scanned array (MESA®) technology delivers high-resolution tracking with precise detection, stable monitoring, and AI-based threat identification in compact radar systems that can be easily integrated into larger platforms.

CEO Eben Frankenberg said the new facility in Washington State, where the company is headquartered, reflects confidence in the performance of its radar technology and the need to meet increasing global demand. He added that the system’s simple design combined with strong performance makes advanced radar capabilities accessible for both defense and civilian safety uses.

Echodyne designs and manufactures radar systems for defense, government, and commercial sectors. Its products combine proprietary MESA® technology with advanced software and machine-learning tools to provide detailed monitoring of air and surface activity. The privately held company, based in Kirkland, Washington, is backed by investors including Bill Gates, NEA, Madrona Venture Group, Baillie Gifford, and Northrop Grumman.

Echodyne is an innovative U.S. technology company specializing in high-performance radar systems built on its patented MESA® (Metamaterials Electronically Scanned Array) architecture. Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Kirkland, Washington, Echodyne’s mission is to reinvent radar by dramatically lowering the cost, size, weight, and power requirements of advanced radar solutions while maintaining or exceeding the capabilities of traditional electronically scanned array (ESA) radars. This breakthrough makes radar accessible for applications where conventional systems were previously impractical due to their cost or complexity.

Echodyne’s MESA radar technology delivers precise, real-time object tracking and situational awareness, enabling use cases across defense, security, critical infrastructure, autonomous machines, airspace management, and unmanned systems. Its product lineup includes solutions such as EchoGuard, EchoShield, and EchoFlight — radars tailored for counter-UAS (unmanned aerial system) detection, perimeter security, airborne surveillance, and autonomous vehicle sensing.

Backed by investors including Bill Gates and Baillie Gifford, Echodyne has secured significant funding to expand production and distribution of its radar platforms. By coupling advanced hardware with software-defined performance features, the company’s radars support seamless integration, data fusion, and mission adaptability, enhancing safety and operational effectiveness in challenging environments.
