South Korean machine tool manufacturer DN Solutions has inaugurated its first manufacturing plant in India at the Bengaluru ITIR Industrial Area in Karnataka. The facility marks the company’s first overseas manufacturing investment since its Yantai plant in China was established in 2003.
DN Solutions has completed its Phase 1 investment of ₹600 crore, or about US$62 million, in the Indian facility. The company is considering additional investments of a similar scale in future phases, depending on market demand and business growth. The company aims to become a leading player in India’s machine tool market. While the initial focus will be on meeting domestic demand, DN Solutions also plans to explore the potential of using India as an export base over the longer term.
Machine tools are used to cut, drill, grind and shape materials with high precision. They are essential to industries such as automotive, aerospace, semiconductors, medical equipment, shipbuilding and defence. Growing investment in advanced manufacturing is increasing demand for machines capable of producing components to very tight tolerances.
DN Solutions said India’s large domestic market, engineering talent, young workforce and expanding manufacturing sector were key factors behind the investment. Bengaluru was selected for its strong industrial, technology, automation and engineering ecosystem.
The new facility is spread across 25 acres and is designed to support manufacturing, research and development, service and technical training. Initial production will include machines developed for the Indian market, including the SVM series of vertical machining centres and LYNX and LEO series horizontal turning centres. Production of advanced five-axis machines is also being considered for future phases.
The company plans to establish an R&D centre at the facility, working with its research institutes in Korea, Germany and China. A technical centre will allow customers to conduct test cuts and identify suitable machining solutions for their manufacturing requirements. The plant will also include a service office, repair shop, parts warehouse and DN Academy. These facilities are expected to improve after-sales support and help develop skilled service and machining professionals.
DN Solutions is targeting greater local sourcing as part of its investment strategy. The company has already achieved about 80% localization by parts count and plans to source most components from India over the next five years, except spindle assemblies. It is working with local MSMEs and plans to launch a formal supplier development programme in 2027.
“We’ve been deeply committed to the Indian market for more than a generation, and as a result we’ve achieved one of the highest market shares among global machine tool companies. We will continue investing in India for the long term,” said Wonjong Kim, CEO, DN Solutions.
DN Solutions currently directly employs around 240 people in India and plans to increase direct employment to about 500 people. The company is also expanding training programmes for graduates, customers, MSMEs and educational institutions. DN Solutions is a South Korean manufacturer of advanced machine tools, serving industries such as automotive, aerospace, energy, general engineering and precision manufacturing.
The company offers a broad range of CNC turning centres, machining centres, multi-tasking machines and automation solutions designed to improve productivity, accuracy and manufacturing efficiency. With a strong focus on engineering, smart manufacturing and digital technologies, DN Solutions supports manufacturers in developing flexible and highly automated production environments. Its global operations and customer base have established the company as a significant player in the international machine tool industry.
