DMG MORI has inaugurated a major expansion of its manufacturing facility in Stipshausen, reinforcing its long-term commitment to advanced machining technologies and strengthening its capabilities in ultrasonic manufacturing. The investment significantly enhances production capacity, research and development infrastructure, logistics, employee facilities and customer training, positioning the site for sustained growth in high-precision manufacturing.
The expansion adds approximately 1,400 square metres of new space dedicated to production, logistics and engineering activities. The upgraded facility also features expanded research and development laboratories, modern training infrastructure and a new employee cafeteria with an outdoor dining area, creating an improved working environment while supporting future business growth.
The Stipshausen site serves as the headquarters of DMG MORI Ultrasonic Lasertec GmbH and has become a global centre of excellence for ultrasonic-assisted machining technologies. The latest investment reflects the company’s strategy to strengthen its manufacturing footprint while accelerating innovation in precision machining solutions for industries requiring exceptional accuracy and process reliability.
Patrick Diederich, Managing Director of DMG MORI Ultrasonic Lasertec GmbH, said the expansion demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to the Stipshausen facility and provides the additional capacity needed to support future technological advancements and business growth.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Masahiko Mori, Group CEO of DMG MORI, members of the company’s leadership team, customers, business partners and representatives from regional government and local communities. Simone Schneider, State Secretary at the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Economics, Tourism, Energy and Climate, highlighted the importance of advanced manufacturing technologies in strengthening industrial competitiveness and supporting future innovation.
The enhanced research and development infrastructure will enable DMG MORI to accelerate the development of next-generation manufacturing technologies while delivering practical machining solutions for increasingly complex industrial applications. For decades, the Stipshausen facility has specialised in the production of advanced five-axis machining centres equipped with ultrasonic technology. These machines are widely used across semiconductor manufacturing, optics, aerospace, medical technology and other high-precision industries where difficult-to-machine materials demand exceptional accuracy and surface quality.
Ultrasonic-assisted machining combines conventional cutting processes with high-frequency tool vibrations, enabling efficient machining of hard and brittle materials while significantly reducing cutting forces, improving tool life and enhancing surface finish. Integrated automation and process optimisation further improve manufacturing flexibility and productivity.
The facility expansion coincided with the launch of the ULTRASONIC Technology Days, held from June 10 to 12, where customers and industry experts experienced live demonstrations of the company’s latest machining technologies. During the event, DMG MORI unveiled the ULTRASONIC 80 Precision, a new high-precision machining centre making its global debut.
The new machine combines ultrasonic-assisted five-axis milling and cylindrical grinding within a single platform. Designed with a highly rigid machine structure and an advanced cooling system, it delivers positioning accuracy of up to five microns while enabling manufacturers to complete multiple precision machining operations on one machine. The integrated approach improves productivity, reduces setup times and supports increasingly complex manufacturing requirements across advanced industrial sectors. With the expansion of its Stipshausen operations, DMG MORI continues to strengthen its leadership in precision machining technologies while investing in innovation that addresses the evolving needs of global manufacturing industries.
